We live in a culture that has set a very high standard for beauty. But what if you are not beautiful? What if you are short, wear thick glasses, or don't fit into designer jeans? What if everyone around you turns the other way when you walk by? What if you are plain - or just plain ugly? Meet Leah, a woman in the Bible who had to deal with more than being unattractive - she also had to contend with her beautiful sister. And to make matters worse, both sisters were married to the same man How does God see us? Is He concerned with our outward appearance? Or does He only look at who we are on the inside? This booklet, based on a sermon by Jamie Buckingham, is about Leah and how she came to know God's love, despite her less-than-perfect appearance. It's also a story about you and me and the rest of the ugly people in the world - and the fact that God looks beyond our physical imperfections to see our heart.

People, like trees, bear fruit in their proper season. In this booklet, taken from a favorite sermon by Pastor Jamie Buckingham, we read that the blessed tree is not the kind that needs to be watered, or nourished, all the time. This tree does not need constant feeding in order to bring forth fruit in its season. The blessed tree may be planted by a dry river bed, but it has roots that go deep into the ground, where reservoirs of stored water are found. In the same way, the blessed man is not meant to produce fruit all the time. But he will produce fruit in its proper season, when his spiritual roots are dug deep into the reservoir of Living Water: Jesus Christ. There are seasons for bearing fruit and there are seasons for not bearing fruit. In those barren seasons we should not be discouraged. God is still working on and through us, and we will produce fruit in the proper time. But we must remember, even when our branches are barren and the rains don't fall, He loves us and is watching over us and one day, again, we will bear fruit.

Jamie Buckingham wrote: "If we truly believe God is in charge, we might as well relax and enjoy life." Thus is the theme of this wonderful book taken directly from a message spoken to the James Robison Evangelistic Association Conference in Ft. Worth, Texas, in 1989. Jamie gets personal with fellow pastors as well as with himself saying, "It's time for Christians to come out of the closet and admit that we are just like everybody else and laugh at ourselves just a little bit." Jamie's stories are funny, but they make a point. Like the parables of Jesus, each story is with purpose, and a little bit of humor. "There are some folks out there who say that Jesus didn't laugh very much," Jamie writes. "But they just don't understand Jewish humor." This book will make you laugh, and think, and perhaps allow you to enjoy life just a little more than before.

It is God's purpose and plan for us all to grow old and to go through physical changes. But it is not God's purpose for us to grow old and stop serving Him. Everything changes because our God is a God of change. There is nothing stationary about God. He is always moving and progressing forward and, as Christians, we are part of something God is doing, regardless of our age or physical condition. So regardless of how old you are or how you feel physically, God still has something for you to do for His kingdom. Regardless of age, you have high value to God. God does not want his people to retire from His service. He needs you now more than he has ever needed you in all your life. He needs you during all of your living years. I don't see any place in God's concept for life that people retire and sit in a rocking chair all the rest of their days. That is not God's plan for your life. Stop living like you are already dead Be excited about your future regardless of how long your past goes back. The doors ahead of you are open. Be creative and productive all the way up to the time God calls you home. Get involved in your church or community organization. Be a light to the world and shine until your last breath. Don't let your age or physical inabilities ever stop you from doing what God is asking you to do. Grab hold of your eternal vision and God will use you for that ministry He still has planned for you.

Christians are under attack from a deadly but invisible enemy. God has given us orders to be armed for battle in spiritual warfare. As we are witnessing in the world today, Satan has mounted a massive attack against Christians and the church. As a result there is a great resurgence of interest in spiritual warfare. Christians of all persuasions must realize they do not have to be pushed around by the devil. Jesus Christ has given us authority - not only to cast out demons, but to bash in the gates of hell. Ephesians 6:11 instructs us to "Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes." In this book, Jamie Buckingham will walk you through each piece of the armor of God and demonstrate how you can have victory in your life over the forces of evil that come to rob you of your God-given inheritance of hope and joy.

Have you ever found yourself in a pit, emotionally, financially or spiritually? In a way only he can teach, Jamie Buckingham relates the pit experiences of Joseph from the book of Genesis to our own "pits" of today. Joseph found himself in two very different kinds of pits in his life: once in the desert when he angered his brothers, and again in Egypt, when he was punished for doing the right things in the eyes of God. Jamie shows us that these pits - the pit of correction and the pit of curing - are God's tools for getting our attention for life-lessons He wants us to learn. This book is adapted from a message preached by Jamie Buckingham. A master storyteller and Bible teacher, Jamie has delighted millions around the world both in person and in print. As a distinguished Bible teacher with graduate degrees in English Literature and Theology, Jamie was respected among liturgical, evangelical, and Pentecostal Christians. Jamie was a husband, father, grandfather, and founding pastor of the Tabernacle Church, an interdenominational congregation in Melbourne, Florida, where he served for 25 years, pastoring and discipling followers of Christ. He lived in a rural area on the east coast of Florida on a family compound with his wife, Jackie, surrounded by five married children.

With three swift replies, God tells this Old Testament prophet that He, God, is in complete control, and Habakkuk should stop worrying. It is a timeless message

Have you ever watched an eagle soar? Picture one now, gliding motionless on the thermal winds, far above the gusts that whip the surface of the earth. His movement is most graceful when he yields to the flow of the currents and lets them carry him. That's the way it is with Christians, says Jamie Buckingham, when we relinquish our lives to the movement of God's Spirit. With biblical examples like Moses, Joshua, and David, and with graphic testimony of his own experiences, Jamie Buckingham shows the consequence of resisting God's presence in the innermost recesses of our lives . . . and the almost indescribable changes that come when we yield to Him. Here is a book that shows you how your life with Christ can move beyond just being a memory of a salvation experience. If you let Him, God can and will lift you from your present existence and start you on a venture Where Eagles Soar. Jamie Buckingham (1932-1992) was one of the most widely read Christian authors of his time. He served in various editorial capacities with Guideposts, Logos Journal, Charisma and Ministries Today magazines. He authored over 45 books included some for well-known public figures such as Kathryn Kuhlman, Corrie ten Boom, Pat Robertson, and others. Buckingham was a leading figure in the Charismatic Movement of the '70s and '80s. He was senior pastor of the interdenominational Tabernacle Church in Melbourne, FL.

God has many ways of teaching us. Jesus taught by example. Men looked at how He lived, and decided to walk that way also. He also taught by precept, speaking directly to people, in a way we might call teaching today. But his favorite way of teaching was through the use of the parable. He loved to tell stories -- stories with spiritual meanings. "In the fall of 1987," Jamie said, "I visited Israel with a camera crew. We had obtained permission from the Israeli government to set up cameras at ten of the sites where Jesus told his best-known parables. There I was to re-tell, on location, these marvelous stories. I had long suspected Jesus used visual objects when telling His parables. When He told the story of the Good Shepherd, He pointed to a shepherd with his flock of sheep in a nearby pasture. When He told the parable of the sower and the seed, He was probably sitting on a rock beside a field where a farmer was sowing his spring seed. Jesus was a man of the earth, and He used earthly things to convey spiritual truth." In this book, Jamie tells of 10 of Jesus' most notable parables and relates them to our lives today. It's a wonderful book, full of truth and wisdom.

Often, as people read the Bible, they come under the conviction that God wants them to change their ways. Or perhaps He wants to encourage them with the example of one of His fearful but obedient children. Or warn them of impending disaster if they persist in behavior He does not condone. Why do Bible people affect them this way? Because they are not legendary giants or super-heroes; they are ordinary people. What would you do if you were a young girl suddenly confronted by an angel with the most incredible mission imaginable, or a great king who had succumbed to temptation and now still had to go on? Jamie Buckingham explores the lives of ten of the best-known people in the Bible and finds out just how much they are like you and me. With a rare ability to bring characters to life, the author takes a fresh look at Deborah and Mary, David and Abraham, Elijah, John the Baptist, Gideon, Joshua, John Mark and Simon Peter at crisis points in their lives. And he discovers four common themes: (1) All God wants is someone who will obey; (2) God is not impressed by the things that impress us; (3) God has His own reasons for whom He chooses; and (4) God chooses people with the same problems and temptations, the same hurts and loves, as we have. Pastor, teacher, and teller of tales, Jamie Buckingham was the author of more than 45 books. He was senior pastor at the 3,000-member Tabernacle Church in Melbourne, Florida, until his death in 1992.

The book that has stunned and moved the hearts of millions is to be re-released with a dramatic new cover to be put into the Hodder Contemporary Classics series. Cruz's classic testimony is still compelling reading more than forty years after its first publication. A childhood overshadowed by spiritualism in his Puerto Rican home preceded a harsh and violent adolescence as the leader of one of New York's toughest street gangs. Chilling scenes of knife fights, torture and murder dominated the life of a young man proud and feared on the outside, but inwardly running scared. His fears and loneliness were brought to the surface through an encounter with the unlikely character of preacher David Wilkerson, who led Cruz to open his life to Christ - an incredible conversion that amazed all who knew him.
