This book demonstrates how nonlinear/non-Gaussian Bayesian time series estimation methods were used to produce a probability distribution of potential MH370 flight paths. It provides details of how the probabilistic models of aircraft flight dynamics, satellite communication system measurements, environmental effects and radar data were constructed and calibrated. The probability distribution was used to define the search zone in the southern Indian Ocean. The book describes particle-filter based numerical calculation of the aircraft flight-path probability distribution and validates the method using data from several of the involved aircraft’s previous flights. Finally it is shown how the Reunion Island flaperon debris find affects the search probability distribution.

The reaction to Ferguson, the murder of Trayvon Martin and other police-related deaths around the US has brought race and the criminal justice system to the forefront of current scholarly discussion. However, unlike the past, racial realism has been brought to the front line via expressions from those affected by police mistreatment as well as official reports from the Department of Justice and social justice advocacy groups. Although a public conversation has begun, lacking within this discourse is a cogent forthright criminological assessment that includes expressions and namely experiences from those affected by police-violenceDrawing on a range of approaches including conflict, critical race, and social control theories, this book provides a comprehensive theoretical review of the need for a critical historical intersectional theory of policing and race. Disrupting the obsolescence of racial realism in policing literature, this book also discusses the social and democratic implications of using critical historical intersectional analyzes in criminological research involving race.

We all want to live fruitful and blessed lives. Unfortunately, although we work more than ever and are more connected than ever, we are also more burned-out, anxious, exhausted, and isolated than ever. But what if we could look to the past to find solutions to our modern dilemmas? What if there was a blueprint laid out for us to find the rest for our souls that we all so desperately crave? For so long, Christianity and culture have missed the power of the garden because we have looked at factories for how to build healthy, fruitful lives instead of the garden. God's plan is for us to thrive and to take the garden with us wherever we go.

From the stresses of repeated deployments to the difficulties of re-entry into civilian life, we are just beginning to understand how protracted conflicts, such as those in Iraq and Afghanistan, are affecting service members. Issues such as risky health behaviors and chemical dependence raise productivity concerns as they do with all organizations, but they also have a profound impact on the safety and readiness of troops--and by extension, the military as a whole--in life-or-death situations. Understanding Military Workforce Productivity cuts through the myths and misconceptions about the health and resilience of today's active-duty armed forces. This first-of-its-kind volume presents up-to-date findings across service branches in core health areas including illness and injury, alcohol and drug abuse, tobacco use, obesity, and mental health. The short- and long-term implications discussed relate to the quality of the lives of service members and their families, the quality and preparedness of the military as a workforce, and prevention and intervention efforts. The book: Presents data from ten large-scale health behavior surveys sponsored by the Department of Defense. Offers background context for understanding health and behavioral health and productivity among service members. Introduces a health and behavioral health model of productivity loss in the armed forces. Compares key indicators of substance abuse, health, and mental health in military and civilian populations. Reviews approaches for improving military productivity. Identifies areas for further study. Understanding Military Workforce Productivity offers a rare close-up of health issues in the services, making it an invaluable source of information for practitioners and researchers in mental health, substance abuse, health behaviors, and military behavioral health.
