Teacher education is rapidly changing, pushing the field to reposition clinical practice as the central feature of teacher preparation programs, increasing the role that schools play in teacher preparation, and advocating for greater collaboration between schools/school districts and universities/colleges of education (see American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, 2018; National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, 2010). As the field evolves so does the meaning and understanding of the work of teacher educators. The Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) has a long history of supporting and advocating for teacher education and teacher educators. The quest to understand who is a teacher educator and what a teacher educator does began in the early 1990s. Through the work of various commissions, ATE developed, refined, and published a set of standards for teacher educators in 2008. Since that time, countless institutions and individuals have used these standards to guide their work and understanding of what it means to be a teacher educator. The challenge of being a teacher educator in today's shifting context and accountability climate is real. The Complex Work of Teacher Educators: Cases that Illustrate Teacher Educator Standards in Action provides concrete, contemporary examples of the ATE Standards from practicing teacher educators. These cases make transparent the complex work of teacher education and highlight the need for preparing high quality teacher educators who can meet tomorrow’s demands for preparing the next generation of teachers. Each chapter closely examines one of the ATE Teacher Educator Standards and then provides several cases from teacher educators across the United States that target that standard. Each chapter also includes discussion questions and an activity designed to promote reflection and change. Readers can use this book as a resource guide to improve their practice, innovate within their local contexts, and advance the work of teacher education.

Given the increasing diversity of the United States and students entering schools, the value of teacher learning in clinical contexts, and the need to elevate the profession, national organizations have been calling for a re-envisioning of teacher preparation that turns teacher education upside down. This change will require PK-12 schools and universities to partner in robust ways to create strong professional learning experiences for aspiring teachers. University faculty, in particular, will not only need to work in schools, but they will need to work with schools in the preparation of future teachers. This collaboration should promote greater equity and justice for our nation’s students. The purpose of this book is to support individuals in designing clinically based teacher preparation programs that place equity at the core. Drawing from the literature as well as our experiences in designing and coordinating award-winning teacher education programs, we offer a vision for equity-centered clinically based preparation that promotes powerful teacher professional learning and develops high-quality, equity-centered teachers for schools. The chapter topics include policy guidelines, partnerships, intentional clinical experiences, coherence, curriculum and coursework, university-based teacher educators, school-based teacher educators, teacher candidate supervision and evaluation, the role of research, and instructional leadership in teacher preparation.

Downscaling is a widely used technique for translating information from large-scale climate models to the spatial and temporal scales needed to assess local and regional climate impacts, vulnerability, risk and resilience. This book is a comprehensive guide to the downscaling techniques used for climate data. A general introduction of the science of climate modeling is followed by a discussion of techniques, models and methodologies used for producing downscaled projections, and the advantages, disadvantages and uncertainties of each. A Practical Guide for Parents, Teachers, and Speech-Language PathologistsCore Words for Classroom and Home is a practical resource to help parents, classroom teachers, and speech-language pathologists encourage communication skills for children who have severe communication deficits. This program offers easy-to-use activities that are targeted to develop verbal and/or augmentative alternative communication abilities (AAC). The program focuses on the most commonly used words for creating sentences (core words) and incorporates literacy, games, writing, art, and cooking activities that work within the home, school, and clinical settings. Included are parent and teacher guides to help with prompting communication skills, using AAC, and understanding specific strategies for optimum communication. As an added feature, each core word is pictured in American Sign Language (ASL). Additionally, the outline of the program allows for parents, teachers, and speech-language pathologists to use this program independently or in coordination with one another. Core words are presented over a two-week session, regardless of language level, with a simple daily guide to help with gradual implementation into the classroom, home, or therapy setting. The activities are interactive and focus on creating positive communicative interactions for both the child and the adult

This resource will help school leaders and other professional development providers conduct ongoing, structured learning opportunities for mathematics teachers (K–12). The authors present models for professional development and the preparation of PD leaders designed and field-tested as part of two research projects supported by the National Science Foundation. The Problem-Solving Cycle model and the Mathematics Leadership Preparation model focus on topics of primary interest to mathematics teachers—mathematics content, classroom instruction, and student learning. They are intentionally designed so that they can be tailored to meet the needs and interests of participating teachers and schools. Through engaging vignettes, the authors describe the models, summarize key research findings, and share lessons learned. The book also includes detailed examples of workshop activities for both teachers and PD leaders.
