This story introduces a mystery on almost the first page, when the Hollisters attend an auction sale at Stone Farm near Shoreham. When Mr. Stone died he had only one relative, his grandson, Graham. Graham had been informed that he was to have the one thing of value on the farm, known only as "mystery boy." Unfortunately no one knew who or what "mystery boy" was. The Hollisters, therefore, were quite surprised to find that the hobbyhorse they purchased at the sale held the key to the identity of this strange bequest. This, however, is a minor mystery, for when the Hollisters visit Pony Hill Farm, a horse farm owned by cousins of Mrs. Hollister, Ruth and Charles Thomas, they all become concerned with a beautiful appaloosa pony that appears at the farm as if out of nowhere. The solution of this puzzle and that of the elusive Graham Stone, along with learning trick riding and entering the County Fair Horse Show, makes a new Hollister story of interesting and unusual adventure.

The Happy Hollisters and the Merry-Go-Round Mystery
Everyone is quite enthusiastic when the suggestion is made that a merry-go-round be one of the main attractions at Shoreham's Lincoln School Fair. Pete Hollister volunteers for the job, in spite of the obvious difficulties of the task. It turns out to be more difficult than was at first supposed, however, for Pete finds he is competing with a professional carnival that has recently arrived in town. Pete's job goes quite well at the start, and he is delighted when he locates two merry-go-rounds which can be used free of charge since the fair is a charity function. Excitement runs high around the Hollister household as plans are made to get the merry-go-rounds delivered to the fairgrounds. In spite of mysterious interference, the merry-go-rounds reach their destination and the whole town turns out to set them up. It is a great disappointment, therefore when a gear for one of the machines is apparently lost. The worst is yet to come, however, for a vandal sets fire to all the booths and decorations in an attempt to destroy the whole production. A Happy Hollister story, packed full of mystery, excitement, and, of course, the fun shared with this wonderful family.

Another exciting adventure for this happy family comes about through their new friend Indy Roades, a former baseball player and a Yumatan Indian. He tells them about his pueblo in the mountains of New Mexico, and his tribe's lost turquoise mine. When Mr. Hollister hears that a store there, called THE CHAPPARAL which sells silver trinkets and Yumatan articles, is closing down, he considers buying the goods for his own shop, THE TRADING POST. He decides to go to New Mexico to examine the stock, and takes his family along with him. After an exciting journey by plane, and in a rented school bus, they arrive among the friendly Yumatans. The children have a wonderful time joining in the games and festivals. Indy's niece and nephew, Blue Feather and Red Feather, show them how to shoot with bows and arrows, and ride bareback on Pinto ponies, as Indian children do. But best of all, they foil the thieves who had stolen the goods they came to buy--and discover a clue to the buried mine. How they help the tribe to regain their prosperity and happiness, and the reward that the grateful Yumatans give them in return, makes an enthralling end to this new story in the Happy Hollister series.
