Joan Lewis

Marshall is a soldier in the army, and Joan is a seaman apprentice in the navy. Both are in uniform when they meet on a Greyhound Bus. They exchanged addresses and the two of them write one another for a year; it is their only form of communication. They never speak nor meet again during their year of writing. Their letters, as far as Joan realizes, are simply ways of trading positive inputs regarding military life. However, the soldier has other thoughts regarding their correspondences. To Marshall, the contents of the seaman apprentice's written word shows that she has a caring and kind quality. Somehow, he has fallen for her. But how can he let the lady know that he is hopelessly in love with her? Afterall, he had only met her in person for one hour on a Greyhound Bus ride. But the soldier does confess to the navy apprentice in his next letter; and she admits her love for him as well. After his tour in Vietnam they married. This story tells of their initial meeting and all of the challenges they go through to secure their place in the world. With their love for children, relatives, friends and even strangers, they never fail to show a dedication for helping those in need. It is a heart-warming chronicle that will display how the couple's love help navigate them through their marriage and many unforeseen obstacles. This book is dedicated to the author's husband, Marshall Lewis, and all of his descendants as well.

Providing a high standard of education for our rural as well as urban students has been this country's intent, but often we have failed to achieve this goal. A number of factors have made guaranteeing educational equality for all students, regardless of location, more of a work-in-progress than a reality. It is only natural to ask how best to maintain a quality educational program in remote areas where funding is limited by lower population numbers and recruiting experienced teachers is problematic. The Challenges of Educating the Gifted in Rural Areas addresses the challenges and benefits of rural schools, shares how to adapt traditional gifted education programs for rural settings, and identifies and examines the components of a workable, successful collaboration among school administrators, teachers, students, parents, and other supporters from the community.

This poetry book was written with the express interest of showing the possibility of having a successful life, no matter what the circumstances may be. The first section of this book is dedicated to the children. They are at their most impressional stage. It is in a child's early years that they are extremely influenced by various people and/or the environment of which they may find themselves. No matter what kind of background a child comes from, with the power of their mind, they can make or break their adulthood. It's all in their attitude and their desire to aspire.

Those are the most challenging ones because they force me to go in search of them. I jot a poem because it's fun and it's a contribute to society. Even if no one knows I've penned the verse, it gives me pleasure knowing it has been created and at any time someone may read it. I can only hope they enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
