Bonding between the tooth and the prosthesis is very much important for the longevity of the prosthesis. With the introduction of the acid etching into clinical practice, various dentin bonding agents were developed to improve the quality of the restoration. In the aim of simplifying the bonding procedure, various authors attempted to develop new bonding agents thereby improving the quality of the bonding and ultimately leading to improved durability of the restoration. The new adhesive systems also can be attributed to their ability to eliminate postoperative sensitivity, improve marginal seal and enhance the flow of resin into fissure. There are different generations in bonding agents, owing their own advantages and disadvantages. Bonding agents keep on evolving to meet the standards of the advancing trends of dentistry.
