Cryptozoologicon is a celebration of the myths, legends, evolution and biology of hidden animals. Always sceptical, but always willing to indulge in speculative fun, Cryptozoologicon aims to provide a new way to approach cryptozoology: as fictional biology.

Memories of the Catskills: The Making of a Hotel, by Alvin L. Lesser, with a foreword by John Conway, Sullivan County Historian, takes the reader back to a time and place that was like no other. Families wishing to get out of the stifling heat of a New York City summer and other nearby crowded areas, found the perfect escape in "the Catskills". By sharing an insider's view of one person's life in this magical arena, Lesser lets readers experience the fun and the work that went into creating a place that people came back to year after year. Memories of the Catskills is a candid and charming memoir about the rise and fall of the "Borscht Belt". Lesser Lodge, a small hotel where the author spent the better part of his childhood, lies at the center of the heartfelt tale. Famous stars of yesteryear came to entertain in the Borscht Belt at Lesser Lodge. The Lodge survived the depression era and then flourished during the years of economic recovery and growth. Not just the story of the Lesser family, but the warmth of people who made others welcome by providing a respite which made them all family-- entertainers and guests alike.

""The Apache Wars"" is a thrilling and detailed account of the brutal conflict between the Apache Indians and the white settlers in the American Southwest during the late 19th century. Written by John Conway, the book chronicles the series of battles, ambushes, raids, and massacres that took place between the Apaches and the US Army, as well as the tensions and misunderstandings that fueled the conflict. The book begins by exploring the history and culture of the Apache people, their nomadic lifestyle, and their long-standing resistance to Spanish and Mexican colonization. It then delves into the arrival of American settlers in the region, the establishment of the reservation system, and the clashes that ensued between the Apaches and the US government. Conway provides a vivid and engaging narrative, drawing on a wealth of primary sources and eyewitness accounts to bring the story to life. He describes the key figures involved in the conflict, including Apache leaders such as Cochise and Geronimo, as well as the military commanders and politicians who sought to subdue them. Throughout the book, Conway also explores the broader social and political context of the Apache Wars, including the impact of westward expansion, the role of racism and prejudice, and the complex relationships between the various tribes and factions involved in the conflict. Overall, ""The Apache Wars"" is a gripping and informative read that offers a fascinating glimpse into a turbulent period of American history. It will appeal to anyone interested in the history of the American West, Native American culture, or military history. Monarch Americana Series, No. 309. We now apply the algorithm above to find the 121 orbits of norm -2 vectors from the (known) nann 0 vectors, and then apply it again to find the 665 orbits of nann -4 vectors from the vectors of nann 0 and -2. The neighbors of a strictly 24 dimensional odd unimodular lattice can be found as follows. If a norm -4 vector v E II . corresponds to the sum 25 1 of a strictly 24 dimensional odd unimodular lattice A and a !-dimensional lattice, then there are exactly two nonn-0 vectors of ll25,1 having inner product -2 with v, and these nann 0 vectors correspond to the two even neighbors of A. The enumeration of the odd 24-dimensional lattices. Figure 17.1 shows the neighborhood graph for the Niemeier lattices, which has a node for each Niemeier lattice. If A and B are neighboring Niemeier lattices, there are three integral lattices containing A n B, namely A, B, and an odd unimodular lattice C (cf. [Kne4]). An edge is drawn between nodes A and B in Fig. 17.1 for each strictly 24-dimensional unimodular lattice arising in this way. Thus there is a one-to-one correspondence between the strictly 24-dimensional odd unimodular lattices and the edges of our neighborhood graph. The 156 lattices are shown in Table 17 . I. Figure I 7. I also shows the corresponding graphs for dimensions 8 and 16.

First inhabited by the Lenape Indians and settled by European colonists in the seventeenth century, New York's Sullivan County has experienced several ages of prosperity and growth over the last two hundred years. County historian John Conway provides a comprehensive pictorial look at this much-celebrated region.

Compiled from the best of John Conway s popular Retrospect column, these articles shine a spotlight on famous faces of the past, from George Suslosky, phenomenal yet feisty diner cook, to the worst woman on earth, Lizzie Brown Halliday. Enlightening and entertaining, the remarkable historical vignettes in this volume explore the customs and curiosities of the Sullivan County Catskills. High on a bank in Craig-e-Clare sat the stately Dundas Castle, rumored to house a beautiful woman who lured fishermen from the Beaverkill River into her lair. In the hamlet of De Bruce, every spring a monstrous panther prowled, feasting on trout and tourists. These are no myths from the dark history of foreign lands, but tales from the colorful past of Sullivan County, New York."
