Filled with larger-than-life characters, and revelations of the vision and technology it took to dominate the skies before and during, World War II, here is a gripping piece of aviation history. Pan Am at War chronicles the airline's historic role in advancing aviation and serving America's national interest before and during World War II. From its inception, Pan American Airways operated as the "wings of democracy," spanning six continents and placing the country at the leading edge of international aviation. At the same time, it was clandestinely helping to fight America's wars. Utilizing government documents, declassified Freedom of Information Act material, and company documents, the authors have uncovered stories of Pan Am's stunning role as an instrument of American might:The airline's role in building air bases in Latin America and countering Axis interests that threatened the Panama CanalCreating transatlantic and trans-Africa supply lines for sending Lend-Lease equipment to BritainCooperation with Chiang Kai-shek and the Chinese nationalist government to pioneer the dangerous "Hump" route over the HimalayasThe dangerous seventeen-thousand-mile journey that took President Roosevelt to the high-stakes Casablanca Conference with Winston ChurchillThe daring flight that delivered uranium for the atomic bomb. For anyone interested in aviation, business, or military history, here is astonishing story filled with big ideas and the leaders who made them a reality.
Encounters in the Word, Volume 6
Due to a heart attack on November 10, 2020, my writing took a detour and for several months stopped completely. During the time I was hospitalized for 112 days, my heart stopped four times, I suffered congestive heart failure a half dozen times and every major bodily function shut down at least once. I was in a coma for nearly three weeks and my family was given no hope for my survival. I would like to say that during my recovery that I never lost hope - I must confess that I lost hope more than once and even prayed on more than one occasion that God would take me home. I would like to say that I have had a great revelation showing me something great God has in store for me since it was by His hand that I have recovered to this point. To that I have no answer. There are others who have had larger ministries than I whom our Savior has called home - but, left me. Having been forced into retirement from my major mission field (sports officiating), my sphere of influence is greatly diminished. So, I seek God's will and ask for His guidance - continuing to do what I know to do in hopes of being a blessing to others. The writings contained herein are a collection of "Weekly Devotionals" that span a time frame from shortly after my release from about six months following my release from the hospital until now - late August of 2022. These devotionals are intended to be more than a simple "happy thought" time. They are designed to help us think about God and His providential work in our lives. I hope and pray that they will, in some small way, be a blessing and an encouragement to you as you read. My editors have told me that my writing style has changed since my close encounter with death. I trust that it has improved.

It was never the intention of this author to produce a modern translation of the New Testament to be used to either update or replace the King James Version. My original intention was personal. Having a hunger for God's Word, and understanding that there are a variety of hidden nuances when translating from one language to another, I desired to understand more fully the inflections of the Greek language which are sometimes missed due to certain weaknesses in the English language. This is the second time I have translated the New Testament from the Greek. My first exercise was from a Critical Text (CT) - known as the Nestle-Aland edition after its most influential editors, Eberhard Nestle and Kurt Aland. At the time of this writing, there have been twenty-eight edition/revisions of this text. Having completed that translation work, I found several issues that caused me some concern. I was so moved that I destroyed my first efforts, which represented nearly ten years of work. While modern scholars will defend the CT as being older and "more reliable," more recent scholarship would place the Textus Receptus (TR) as having its origin within a few years of the close of the Canon traced through the Peshitta text. Modern scholars would also suggest that there are no major doctrines of the Christian faith which cannot be found in the CT; however, when those major doctrines appear clearly and obviously, why use a text that shrouds these doctrines from plain view. To that end, this translation resulted after another ten years of pleasurable work. This work is a literal translation - so literal, in fact, that the wording is sometimes awkward and the reading is not smooth; however, every attempt to be true to interpretation, syntax and grammar has been made. Through this work, I have enjoyed walking with the New Testament authors and gaining a better understanding of my Savior.
Encounters in the Word, volume 3
Something to think about - The Bible assures us that our God will never leave us, neither will He forsake us. It was the God of Israel who promised: "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee." (Isaiah 43.2) This Almighty Creator God extended His love to the world through His Son Jesus Christ in whom, if any should believe, they would be saved and placed under the protective wings of His care. (John 3.16) The writer of the New Testament book to the Hebrews confirms this promise: "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13.5) Unbelievers (those who have not trusted in God's provision through Jesus Christ) have no promise of God's presence through any difficulty - they are on their own and left to their own devices. Believers suffer similar experiences while in the flesh because we are in the world - albeit, not of the world.
