Quaker By Convincement: A Spiritual Autobiography is a book written by John Henry Hobart that chronicles his journey towards becoming a Quaker. The book is a personal account of Hobart's spiritual journey, starting from his childhood in a Presbyterian family to his conversion to Quakerism. Hobart's story is one of struggle, as he grapples with questions about his faith and seeks to find a deeper understanding of God. He discusses his experiences with various religious traditions, including Presbyterianism, Anglicanism, and Methodism, before ultimately finding a spiritual home in the Society of Friends. Throughout the book, Hobart reflects on the core Quaker beliefs, including the importance of inner spiritual experiences, simplicity, and pacifism. He also discusses the ways in which his faith has shaped his personal and professional life, including his work as a teacher and his involvement in social justice causes. Quaker By Convincement is a deeply personal and introspective book that offers readers a window into the Quaker faith and the transformative power of spiritual conviction.
