Reflections for Daily Prayer continues to be one of the most popular and highly valued daily Bible reading companions. Continuing its tradition of excellence, regular favourites and new contributors offer insightful, informed and inspiring reflections on the scripture readings of the day, based on the Common Worship lectionary for Morning Prayer. David Ford is the guest contributor for Holy Week. New voices this year include Gregory Cameron, the Bishop of St Asaph and author of the popular An Advent Book of Days and An Easter Book of Days; Chine MacDonald, author, broadcaster and Director of the religious think tank Theos; and Emma Parker, Deputy Warden of Cranmer Hall, Durham. For every day (excluding Sundays) of the 2024-25 church year, there are full references and a quotation from the day’s set of Scripture readings, concise and challenging commentary, and a collect. Also included is a simple order for Morning and Night Prayer, and additional helps for nurturing a habit of regular daily prayer.

Peter Atkinson has made a highly distinguished and much respected contribution to the Church of England-the last principal of Chichester Theological College and the dean of Worcester for 16 years. He is widely acknowledged to be one of the ablest preachers of his generation. To mark his retirement and honour his ministry, this volume distils the very best of his sermons for the lasting benefit of the Church as a whole. Drawn from over 25 years of ministry, the collection combines rich reflection on Sundays of the Christian year together with original insight into festivals and saints' days of the liturgical calendar, and wisdom relating to key occasions of national and international importance. The sermons are bold and courageous, tackling subjects of pressing contemporary concern, such as sexual abuse in the Church, English patriotism, and truth in political speech. They are topped and tailed by an introduction to the art of preaching by two theological educators, Michael Brierley and Georgina Byrne, and an afterword by the archbishop of York. A case study in the skill of preaching, this volume will be of considerable interest to preachers, and to all those seeking to deepen their spiritual life.
A Christian Theology of Place

A Christian Theology of Place

The place in which we stand is often taken for granted and ignored in our increasingly mobile society. Differentiating between place and space, this book argues that place has very much more influence upon human experience than is generally recognised and that this lack of recognition, and all that results from it, are dehumanising. John Inge presents a rediscovery of the importance of place, drawing on the resources of the Bible and the Christian tradition to demonstrate how Christian theology should take place seriously. A renewed understanding of the importance of place from a theological perspective has much to offer in working against the dehumanising effects of the loss of place. Community and places each build the identity of the other; this book offers important insights in a world in which the effects of globalisation continue to erode people's rootedness and experience of place.
