In this groundbreaking book Bill Bolton and John Thompson present a completely new take on the conventional domains of entrepreneur, leader and manager. They argue that in today’s turbulent and uncertain world, businesses no longer have the time for a business cycle that begins with an entrepreneur, hands over to a manager and finally brings in a strategic leader when things are flagging. ‘The New Normal’ that now prevails requires that these things run together and calls for a new kind of all-rounder. Bolton and Thompson give us a new word to describe such a person: The ENTIREPRENEURThe entirely competent person, able to discern aright and make things happen. Drawing upon the successful person-centred approach of their books on entrepreneurs they first tell the stories of over 40 entirepreneurs, demonstrating clearly that such people do exist. After discussing the ‘New Normal’ context they present a fascinating analysis that goes below the surface to describe the key Talent, Temperament, Technique and Discernment attributes that explain the entirepreneur. Readers have the opportunity to make a self-evaluation of their own attribute strengths, concluding with a final ‘entirepreneur’ score. This fascinating and insightful look at the entirepreneur is a clear pointer to what will be demanded of those who wish to succeed amid the vicissitudes of the 'New Normal’.

Successful hedge fund investing begins with well-informed strategy A Guide to Starting Your Hedge Fund is a practical, definitive "how-to" guide, designed to help managers design and launch their own funds, and to help investors select and diligence new funds. The first book to examine the practical aspects of setting up and operating funds with a focus on energy commodity markets, this book scrutinises the due diligence process and comprehensively reviews the opportunities and risks of all energy commodity markets as hedge fund investments. Extensive planning and strategy advice prove invaluable to prospective fund managers and investors alike, and detailed discussion of the markets' constraints help inform procedural decisions. Readers gain insight into practical matters including legal and commercial structures, due diligence, fund raising, operations, and more, allowing them to construct a concrete investment plan before ever touching a penny. Asset managers are looking to energy commodities to provide attractive uncorrelated – if volatile – returns. These high returns, however, are accompanied by high risk. Few investors have experience evaluating these investment opportunities, and few prospective fund managers understand the market fundamentals and their associated risks. This book provides the answers sorely lacking in hedge fund literature, giving investors and fund managers the background they need to make smarter decisions. Understand the markets' structures, opportunities, and risksDevelop a comprehensive, well-informed investment strategyConduct thorough due diligence with a detailed plan Examine the practical aspects of fund raising, legal and tax structure, and more Oil has long been traded by hedge funds, but electricity, the fuels that generate electricity, and the environmental products like emissions allowances and weather derivatives have become the new "hot" investment strategies. These high returns come with higher risk, but A Guide to Starting Your Hedge Fund ensures participants have essential information at their disposal.

Bayesian Analysis with Stata

Bayesian Analysis with Stata

John Thompson

Stata Press

nidottu
Bayesian Analysis with Stata is written for anyone interested in applying Bayesian methods to real data easily. The book shows how modern analyses based on Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods are implemented in Stata both directly and by passing Stata datasets to OpenBUGS or WinBUGS for computation, allowing Stata’s data management and graphing capability to be used with OpenBUGS/WinBUGS speed and reliability. The book emphasizes practical data analysis from the Bayesian perspective, and hence covers the selection of realistic priors, computational efficiency and speed, the assessment of convergence, the evaluation of models, and the presentation of the results. Every topic is illustrated in detail using real-life examples, mostly drawn from medical research. The book takes great care in introducing concepts and coding tools incrementally so that there are no steep patches or discontinuities in the learning curve. The book's content helps the user see exactly what computations are done for simple standard models and shows the user how those computations are implemented. Understanding these concepts is important for users because Bayesian analysis lends itself to custom or very complex models, and users must be able to code these themselves.

John Thompson (c.1866–1936) was Classics master and headmaster (1908–27) at the prestigious High School, Dublin. A competent linguist, he translated from German, produced a Latin primer, and wrote a Sanskrit course, though he opposed the teaching of Irish. He became a Member of the Royal Irish Academy (1912), President of the Classical Association (1918) and was appointed Officier d'Académie by the French government (1927). This work, first published in 1902, was intended for both the beginner and the more advanced student. It concentrates on Attic Greek, covering accidence in part one and syntax in part two, with appendices on accents and sound changes, Homeric accidence, and the weights, measures and calendar used by Attic Greeks. The work was popular with generations of teachers and pupils. It remains a useful resource for the modern student of Greek, and for readers interested in the history of Classics education.
Christ in Perspective in the Theology of Karl Barth
Karl Barth is the foremost theologian of the twentieth century, some would say since Thomas Aquinas. Our understanding of Jesus- our Christology- is crucial to Christian faith. It is the touchstone by which everything else stands or falls, and it is at the centre of the present-day theological debate. In this study, Professor Thompson brings the two together. He seeks to understand Barth on Christ. In his words, 'to let Barth be heard on a central (indeed the central) theme of his theology'. It is the first comprehensive treatment of its kind and one which proves to be very relevant for our discussions about Jesus today.
