Following ship surgeon, Lemuel Gulliver, Jonathan Swift's satire, Gulliver's Travels, is a humorous critique of the darker aspects of human nature. During his voyage, Gulliver visits four islands, each more bizarre and fantastical that the last. From tiny people to giants, from majestic horses to scarily humanoid "Yahoos," each of the island inhabitants create an experience that no one is likely to forget.
Dzhonatan Svift stal shiroko izvesten blagodarja svoej knige "Puteshestvija Gullivera", odnako imenno pamflety sostavljajut bolshuju chast literaturnogo nasledija avtora. V svoikh satiricheskikh proizvedenijakh Svift neschadno izoblichaet bezzakonie i litsemerie, vysmeivaet nevezhestvo i fanatizm. V dannoe izdanie vkljucheny izbrannye pamflety avtora, sozdannye im na razlichnykh etapakh ego tvorcheskogo puti.

Collector's Edition Laminated Hardback with Jacket Shipwrecked and stranded, Gulliver stumbles into extraordinary lands filled with strange inhabitants. He grapples with the tiny Lilliputians and later finds himself dwarfed by towering giants. Each encounter challenges his understanding of power, society, and human nature. As he navigates these bizarre worlds, his journey becomes a biting critique of the world he knows. Gulliver's Travels is not only an imaginative adventure but also a sharp critique of 18th-century politics, society, and human nature. Through his vivid portrayal of bizarre worlds, Jonathan Swift cleverly satirized the follies of his time, from petty political disputes to the flaws of human ambition. The novel's biting commentary on power and corruption resonated with readers, making it a groundbreaking work of political satire. Its influence continues to shape literature and thought, offering timeless reflections on the nature of humanity and society.
Part of the Chiltern Classics rangeLemuel Gulliver's voyages take him to lands peopled by very different inhabitants. The tiny Lilliputians squabble with neighbours over how to crack an egg. The Laputans are scientifically advanced but wholly impractical. The equine Houyhnhnms are refined, unlike the degenerate humanoid Yahoos. Swift's caustic satire of 18th-century society has lost none of its power, exposing the follies, vices and irrationality of the human race. Chiltern are publishers of exquisitely crafted editions of the world's finest classic literature. These beautiful books are a perfect mix of tradition and the very latest in printing techniques. With wonderful original, detailed and embossed covers, sparkling gilt edges, cream art paper, ribbon markers and stitched binding they are simply the most beautiful classics ever published.

Sumerilaisesta 1900 eaa. tehdystä savitaulusta on luettu ”Jotain mitä ei ole tapahtunut ammoisiin aikoihin: nuori neito ei pieraissut aviomiehensä sylissä.” Kokoelmassa on neljä klassista pierutekstiä:- Jonathan Swift: Piereskelyn hyödyt- Benjamin Franklin: Kirje Brysselin kuninkaalliselle akatemialle- Charles James Fox: Essee ilmasta- Mark Twain: 1601 - Takan eteen kokoontuneiden keskustelu Tudorien aikakaudelta
Jonathan Swift (30 November 1667 - 19 October 1745) was an Anglo-Irish satirist, essayist, political pamphleteer (first for the Whigs, then for the Tories), poet and Anglican cleric who became Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, hence his common sobriquet, "Dean Swift". Swift is remembered for works such as A Tale of a Tub (1704), An Argument Against Abolishing Christianity (1712), Gulliver's Travels (1726), and A Modest Proposal (1729). He is regarded by the Encyclop dia Britannica as the foremost prose satirist in the English language, and is less well known for his poetry. He originally published all of his works under pseudonyms - such as Lemuel Gulliver, Isaac Bickerstaff, M. B. Drapier - or anonymously. He was a master of two styles of satire, the Horatian and Juvenalian styles.
