Natiirlich hat jeder Verkiiufer und jede Marketingabteilung eine eigene "Philosophie" als Konzept optimaler Verkaufsstrategien, untemehmerischer Zielvorgaben und ihrer effektiven Umsetzung in der Werbung oder Verkaufspraxis. Die Verkaufsforschung bemiiht sich seit langem, mit Hilfe okonomischer und psychologischer Untersuchungen das Phiinomen Verkauf theoretisch in den Griff zu bekommen und praktische Anleitungen zu geben. Allerdings sind bisher keine nennenswerten Ergebnisse zu verzeichnen. Das traditionelle Selbstverstandnis der Anglistik ist in den letzten Jahren ins Wanken geraten: Die starkere Betonung kulturwissenschaftlicher Elemente einerseits und (oft in Verbindung damit) das wachsende Interesse an englischsprachigen Literaturen (und Kulturen) ausserhalb Britanniens, der USA und des 'Old' Commonwealth deuten darauf hin. Der vorliegende Band will einen Beitrag zur Transformation der Anglistik - insbesondere ihrer Teilbereiche Literaturwissenschaft und Landeskunde (und deren Didaktiken) - leisten. Er nimmt zu diesem Zweck einen vermittelnden Standpunkt ein: Zum einen versuchen die einzelnen Aufsatze, die theoretische Entwicklung innerhalb und (soweit relevant) ausserhalb des Faches aufzuarbeiten, zum anderen werden die so erzielten Ergebnisse theoretischer Arbeit in der praktischen Unterrichts- und Lehrtatigkeit erprobt und fur den Nachvollzug aufbereitet."
