Participation of the people in the programmes leads to realistic plans, better resource mobilization and better implementation with greater cooperation, better integration of activities and services below, better achievement of the objectives and finally wider distribution of the benefits. Keeping in view the vital importance of people's participation, an attempt has been made to compile the papers presented at the national seminar on People's Participation in Development by the academicians of different universities and social workers in order to know the nature and extent of people's participation in the developmental programmes, barriers to peoples participation and strategies to strengthen people's participation.
