The timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness. And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream. A spiritual masterpiece set in prose poetry, The Prophet follows the advice of the prophet Al Mustafa as he gives his insight on the intricacies of life and the human condition. His thoughts comprise those on love, marriage, children, giving, eating and drinking, work, joy and sorrow, houses, clothes, buying and selling, crime and punishment, laws, freedom, reason and passion, pain, self-knowledge, teaching, friendship, talking, time, good and evil, prayer, pleasure, beauty, religion, and death. A penetrating work, The Prophet also includes twelve drawings by Gibran himself.

"The Prophet", by Lebanese-American poet and artist Kahlil Gibran, is one of the world's most famous books. Published in 1923, it has been translated into over one hundred languages and has sold nearly ten million copies in the United States. Gibran was born to a poor, Christian family in Lebanon in 1883 and emigrated to America with his mother and siblings at age 12. While he received little education as a child, he became a serious art student as a young adult and studied at the Acad mie Julian in Paris. Gibran began working on "The Prophet" in 1912 and continued perfecting his most well-known work for over a decade. Gibran was greatly influenced by his Catholic upbringing, as well as Islam, Sufi mystics, Western Classicism and Romanticism, surrealism, and the Bahai Faith. These varied religions are evident in the wisdom that the main character, Al Mustafa, shares with his fellow shipmates in "The Prophet". The diverse topics he discusses include love, marriage, laws, freedom, pain, friendship, religion, death, and most every important aspect of the human condition. This masterpiece of spiritual wisdom, told in 26 prose and poetry fables, is widely considered one of the most beautiful books ever written. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.

Almustafa, the chosen and the beloved, who was a dawn unto his own day, had waited twelve years in the city of Orphalese for his ship that was to return and bear him back to the isle of his birth. And in the twelfth year, on the seventh day of Ielool, the month of reaping, he climbed the hill without the city walls and look seaward; and he beheld his ship coming with the mist. Then the gates of his heart were flung open, and his joy flew far over the sea. And he closed his eyes and prayed in the silences of his soul. So begins The Prophet, Kahlil Gibran’s collection of twenty-eight prose poems on the themes of love, marriage, joy and sorrow, reason and passion, freedom, beauty, death—the essence of what we define as the human condition. Profound in its spirituality and elegant in its telling, Gibran’s masterwork has sold millions of copies since it was first published in 1923 and is admired around the world for its wisdom and philosophical insights. This edition features twelve illustrations drawn by the author to accompany his inspirational text.
