Death zone mountains, those towering above 8,000 metres, are places where prolonged human survival is impossible. Oxygen levels drop to around 35% of those at sea level, and every moment spent there takes a toll on the body. Death zone guides are the ones who lead their client-climbers into this mountainous world where oxygen is scarce, the cold cuts to the bone, and mistakes are rarely forgiven. In this hostile environment, death-zone guides play a critical yet largely overlooked role. They are the highly skilled professionals hired by adventure companies to lead paying client-climbers, whether they are recreational mountaineers, adventure enthusiasts, or elite athletes, on commercial expeditions into the world's highest and most dangerous peaks in the Himalaya and Karakoram Range. Death zone guides come from a range of ethnic, cultural, and national backgrounds - men and women from countries as varied as Nepal, Pakistan, India, Chile, the USA, and beyond. What signifies their role is not their ethnicity, but the unique blend of technical expertise, local knowledge, and emotional and mental resilience. Their work spans the entire expedition lifecycle, from pre-trip planning and preparation to the climb itself, and finally, to ensuring everyone's safe return to base camp. Despite their pivotal role, the voices of death zone guides remain largely absent from the mountaineering literature. This book changes that. Drawing on 16 in-depth interviews with death zone guides from nine countries, it brings forward the collective, often hidden, stories of the silent workers of the death zone. Through their voices, the book reveals the skill, sacrifice, and humanity behind one of the most extreme professions on Earth, challenging assumptions and widening the lens on what it truly takes to guide in the thin air above 8,000 metres of mountain.

Above 8,000 metres lies the death zone - a place where oxygen levels are so low prolonged human survival becomes impossible. It is here, in the world's highest mountains of the Himalaya and Karakoram Region, that the death zone guides work. Professionals who lead clients through some of the most dangerous environments on Earth, carrying responsibility not only for their own survival but also the lives of others. For decades, stories of the death zone have focused on climbers, expeditions, triumphs, and tragedies. Historians, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, tourism scholars and mountaineers have all sought to understand why people voluntarily venture into these extreme environments. Yet, one group has remained largely absent from these accounts: the death zone guides themselves. Drawing on interviews with 16 death zone guides from nine countries, this book brings together their collective stories that transcend nationality, ethnicity and gender. Through the guides own words, readers encounter the realities of fear, loneliness, ethical dilemmas, injury, grief, family sacrifice, resilience and the enduring pull of the mountains. Structured around the guiding journey itself, the book follows guides before, during and after expeditions. It explores how they prepare for the mountains, what they experience in the death zone and how guiding continues to shape their lives long after leaving the Base Camp. The result is a rare and intimate portrait of a profession that has remained largely hidden behind summit photographs and expedition success stories. This is not a book about summits. It is a book about the people who help others reach them. Researchers in leisure, travel, tourism and related fields, and mountaineering enthusiasts will find it compelling.

This book focuses on broadband power amplifier design for wireless communication. Nonlinear model embedding is described as a powerful tool for designing broadband continuous Class-J and continuous class F power amplifiers. The authors also discuss various techniques for extending bandwidth of load modulation based power amplifiers, such as Doherty power amplifier and Chireix outphasing amplifiers. The book also covers recent trends on digital as well as analog techniques to enhance bandwidth and linearity in wireless transmitters. Presents latest trends in designing broadband power amplifiers;Covers latest techniques for using nonlinear model embedding in designing power amplifiers based on waveform engineering;Describes the latest techniques for extending bandwidth of load modulation based power amplifiers such as Doherty power amplifier and Chireix outphasing amplifiers;Includes coverage of hybrid analog/digital predistortion as wideband solution for wireless transmitters;Discusses recent trends on on-chip power amplifier design with GaN /GaAs MMICs for high frequency applications.

This book introduces systematic design methods for passive and active RF circuits and techniques, including state-of-the-art digital enhancement techniques. As the very first book dedicated to multiband RF circuits and techniques, this work provides an overview of the evolution of transmitter architecture and discusses current digital predistortion techniques. Readers will find a collection of novel research ideas and new architectures in concurrent multiband power dividers, power amplifiers and related digital enhancement techniques. This book will be of great interest to academic researchers, R&D engineers, wireless transmitter and protocol designers, as well as graduate students who wish to learn the core architectures, principles and methods of multiband RF circuits and techniques.
