Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (commonly Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 English children's novel by Lewis Carroll, a mathematics don at Oxford Univer- sity. It details the story of a young girl named Alice who falls through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world of anthropomorphic creatures. It is seen as an example of the literary nonsense genre. The artist John Tenniel provided 42 wood-en- graved illustrations for the book.. It received positive reviews upon release and is now one of the best-known works of Victorian literature; its narrative, structure, characters and imagery have had a widespread influence on popular culture and literature, especially in the fanta- sy genre. 1] 2] It is credited as helping end an era of didacticism in children's lit- erature, inaugurating an era in which writing for children aimed to "delight or entertain". 3] The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children. 4] The titular character Alice shares her name with Alice Liddell, a girl Carroll knew. The book has never been out of print and has been translated into 174 languages.

Sylvie and Bruno, first published in 1889, and its second volume Sylvie and Bruno Concluded published in 1893, form the last novel by Lewis Carroll published during his lifetime. Both volumes were illustrated by Harry Furniss. The novel has two main plots: one set in the real world at the time the book was published (the Victorian era), the other in the fantasy world of Fairyland. While the latter plot is a fairy tale with many nonsense elements and poems, similar to Carroll's Alice books, the story set in Victorian Britain is a social novel, with its characters discussing various concepts and aspects of religion, society, philosophy and morality.

"Through the Looking-Glass" is the enchanting sequel to Lewis Carroll's beloved classic "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." This fantastical journey takes young Alice through a mirror into a whimsical world where logic is turned upside down and the ordinary becomes extraordinary. In this reverse universe, Alice encounters talking flowers, peculiar kings and queens, and becomes a pawn in a bizarre game of chess leading to her own queendom. Carroll's mastery of wordplay, poetry, and wit is on full display as Alice navigates this topsy-turvy landscape, meeting memorable characters like Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Red Queen, and Humpty Dumpty. The book is filled with imaginative sequences, thought-provoking riddles, and surreal humor, making it a delightful read for both children and adults. "Through the Looking-Glass" is more than just a children's story; it's a literary exploration of fantasy, perspective, and the growth of a young girl navigating an unpredictable world.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass is a cherished collection of stories featuring the titular character, Alice, and her misadventures through the curious and fantastical lands of Wonderland. As little Alice goes deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole, she meets an assortment of oddball characters, like the eccentric March Hare, the whimsical Mad Hatter, and the enigmatic Cheshire Cat, who will all become familiar faces within this strange world. If Alice is to navigate the dangerous yet fascinating landscape of Wonderland, she must learn who is friend and who is foe, and use her good sense to find a way home.

There's nothing quite like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Described by The Times on its first publication in 1865 as 'an excellent piece of nonsense', this inspired tale of a young girl's adventures in a strange and magical world has gone on to become one of the most popular books ever written, translated into over 125 languages and said to be the most frequently quoted book after the Bible, Quran and Shakespeare. In Tove Jansson, the story of Alice finds an illustrator worthy of its enchantment and surreal beauty. Jansson is renowned worldwide for her hugely successful Moomin books. What is less well known is that in 1966 she devoted her unique gifts as an illustrator to recreating the remarkable world of this most famous of children's characters. Over fifty years after she presented Lewis Carroll's masterpiece to a Scandinavian audience, Tove Jansson's beautifully illustrated edition of the original text of this classic work is now presented in a special slipcase edition — a treasure to behold.
