Copyright basics is an informative publication that offers a clear and structured overview of copyright law and its application within the United States. The book explains the fundamental principles of protecting creative and intellectual efforts, emphasizing the rights granted to creators over their literary, artistic, musical, and other original works. It outlines the procedures involved in establishing ownership, clarifying how protection arises automatically upon the creation of a work and how registration enhances legal security. The content explores distinctions between published and unpublished works, the scope of transferable rights, and the inclusion of notices that affirm ownership. It also examines the limitations and exceptions built into copyright law to balance individual rights with public access to information. Through practical guidance and legal clarity, the book serves as a resource for understanding intellectual property protection, promoting respect for creative labor, and ensuring that creators retain control over the use and distribution of their creations.
A Comparative English-Chinese Dictionary of Military Terms

A Comparative English-Chinese Dictionary of Military Terms

Independently Published

nidottu
This publication is intended as a reference aid for significant military terms as interpreted and defined by the People's Republic of China (PRC). For each entry, the English-language heading is followed by the simplified Chinese characters used in China, their pinyin romanization, and their standard telegraphic codes (STC). An authoritative Chinese definition is given when available. This is followed by a commentary in which available official Soviet and United States definitions for the term are included for comparative purposes, and concepts and terminology are clarified as necessary. All materials used in the preparation of this report are drawn from open sources. Sources for the Chinese definitions are listed in the left column in abbreviated form. Other sources are cited in the text when they are used. The terms are arranged alphabetically according to the English-language headings. Entries are indexed separately according to the pinyin romanizations of the Chinese terms. A detailed bibliography is also included. In 2007, China published a new bilingual military dictionary including more than 250,000 entries of military terms, most of which are taken from US armed forces publications. I have searched high and low for a copy of that with no success. When we do find it, we will print it. For now, this will have to do. This book includes original commentary which is copyright material. Note that government documents are in the public domain. We print these large documents as a service so you don't have to. The books are compact, tightly-bound, full-size (8 1/2 by 11 inches), with large text and glossy covers. 4th Watch Publishing Co. is a HUBZONE SDVOSB. https: //usgovpub.com
Journeys: Young Readers' Letters to Authors Who Changed Their Lives
Books can change lives -- and here are more than fifty powerful letters from young readers to authors revealing some of the ways that is true. Annie Schnitzer tells Elie Wiesel, "Reading your story allowed me to connect with my own history," explaining how reading his memoir deepened her understanding of her grandparents' plight during the Holocaust. After reading The House on Mango Street, Julia Mueller writes to Sandra Cisneros, "You didn't tell me how to pull myself back together; you just showed me that I could. I was tired of trying to be somebody else's definition of beautiful, and you told me that was okay." Culled from the Letters About Literature contest of the Library of Congress Center for the Book, the fifty-two letters in this collection -- written by students in grades four through twelve -- reveal how deeply books and poetry affect the lives of readers. Offering letters that are as profound as they are personal and as moving as they are enlightening, this collection, which also features artwork by some of the contest entrants, provides a glimpse into young people's lives and their connections -- both expected and unexpected -- to the written word.
A Guide to Civil War Maps in the National Archives

Civil War Maps in the National Archives lists the approximately 8,000 Civil War maps, charts, and plans in the Cartographic and Architectural Branch of the National Archives, the largest single body of cartographic records pertaining to the American Civil War. The records described in this guide are maps, plans, and charts containing information relating directly to Civil War operations and installations. Most of the material described dates from the war and was produced for use by the military forces or to accompany official reports. Many of the maps that are con temporary with the war do not deal specifically with military operations, but do provide information concerning the areas directly affected by the conflict. A number of postwar maps contain military information, usually prepared for historical purposes or in connection with official investigations of Civil War operations. Almost all of the Civil War maps in the National Archives are Federal maps, prepared by or for the Union forces or other agencies of the Federal Government. A few are commercially published maps that were acquired for use and annotated by personnel in Federal military or civilian offices. The Confederate maps described in this guide were, for the most part, captured by Union officers. Maps that are filed with Civil War correspondence, reports, and similar documents are not included here.

Published in 1893"A WOMAN'S PHILOSOPHY OF LOVE" is the outcome of thirty-five years of thought, study, and experience. It is not a book for babes, nor possibly for persons of a darkened and prurient mind; but it is believed that there is, both in this country and elsewhere, a large and growing class of cultivated and thoughtful people, who see in the relations between men and women, the elementary principle of all civil order, the keynote of all social progress, and who will welcome a thoughtful and dispassionate discussion of some of those vexed questions of right and priority, which are forcing themselves into every field of thought and labor in Christendom. Such a discussion, if it be at all thorough, must necessarily include some topics which it is difficult to present without offence; but the author has at least conscientiously endeavored to do justice to the truth, without disregarding those principles of delicacy which are rightly recognized as the safeguards of society. The measure of her success, it must be left for the public to decide.
