Bibelen læst af … er en serie af bøger, der åbner Bibelens forunderlige verden. Dette bind handler om Kongebøgerne i Det Gamle Testamente – og om konger dengang og nu. Første Kongebog og Anden Kongebog er placeret i Det Gamle Testamente i den del, man kalder de historiske bøger. Genremæssigt er de beslægtet med Samuelsbøgerne og Krønikebøgerne. I Første Kongebog hører vi bl.a. om kong Salomos storhed og fald og i Anden Kongebog om Jerusalems belejring og Det babylonske Fangenskab. Og vi møder spændende kvinder som Batseba og dronningen af Saba. Kongebøgerne kan muligvis dateres til 6.-5. årh. f. Kr. Christoffersen tager udgangspunkt i tronskiftet, når hun læser, levendegør, lytter til og perspektiverer Kongebøgerne. In spite of the debate about secularization or de-secularization, the existential-bodily need for religion is basically the same as always. What have been changed are the horizons within which religions are interpreted and the relationships within which religions are integrated. This book explores how religions continue to challenge secular democracy and science, and how religions are themselves being challenged by secular values and practices. All traditions - whether religious or secular - experience a struggle over authority, and this struggle seems to intensify with globalization, as it has brought people around the world in closer contact with each other.
