Ludwig Minkus

For the first time, we introduce Deldevez's ballet "Paquita" as a full three-act piano score, in the musical and scenic version from Petipa and Minkus (1881). Structurally, this edition is based upon the authentic violin repetiteur of the aforementioned production and the piano adaptation of Deldevez's music was sourced from the original 1846 Parisian orchestral score. In the appendixes, you will find various fragments from Deldevez's original score that were not included in Petipa's staging as well as some excerpts from the 1847 St. Petersburg version. Additionally, there are a wide range of variations that have been included in the Grand Pas over time as well as brief historical and biographical information. This edition also offers the possibility to compare the dramatic action from the original libretto alongside the corresponding musical numbers from the piano and original violin repetiteur scores. Our hope is that this edition will be useful to choreographers, ballet accompanists, ballet students, musicologists, ballet historians and anyone interested in the art of ballet.

The surrent edition contains materials related to the ballet "Paquita". These are piano transcriptions of the famous Grand pas (including fourteen variations used in different stage versions), Pas de trois, Polonaise-Mazourka. In addition to the sheet musical material, the reader is offered notations of the choreographic text, the ballet libretto, illustrations. The edition will be useful for ballet theater practitioners (choreographers, performers, teachers and students of choreographic educational institutions, experts in the Russian ballet theater classical heritage, accompanists), its theorists (ballet experts, theater experts, musicologists) and all ballet theater lovers.

One of the tasks of the collection is to familiarize with pieces from little-known and almost forgotten ballets by C. Pugni and L. Minkus. The collection presents dance genres that are often encountered in the practice of accompaniment in the ballet class: waltzes, polkas, mazurkas and galops. The edition is intended for pianists - ballet accompanists, as well as for teachers-choreographers.
