Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this monograph on Germany not only describes and analyses the legal aspects of labour relations, but also examines labour relations practices and developing trends. It provides a survey of the subject that is both usefully brief and sufficiently detailed to answer most questions likely to arise in any pertinent legal setting. Both individual and collective labour relations are covered in ample detail, with attention to such underlying and pervasive factors as employment contracts, suspension of the contracts, dismissal laws and covenant of non-competition, as well as international private law. The author describes all important details of the law governing hours and wages, benefits, intellectual property implications, trade union activity, employers' associations, workers' participation, collective bargaining, industrial disputes, and much more. Es behandelt die wichtigsten produktionswirtschaftlichen Planungsprobleme und stellt die zu ihrer L sung erforderlichen grundlegenden Methoden im berblick dar.

Thirty-three authorities in the field of labour and industrial relations law gather here to enhance and complement the work of the late Marco Biagi, a man who, at the time of his violent and untimely death, had shown himself to be the most insightful and committed international scholar in this complex and controversial - and, as it proved, even dangerous field. The topics covered range over many of Professor Biagi's special interests, including the following: the formulation of a new basis for labour law that could resolve new issues; employee protection in corporate restructuring; the trend toward individual "enterprise bargaining"; a new European employment policy and what it might entail; the growing phenomenon of "flexibilisation" and the effects of an ageing workforce. It also examines: the crucial nexus of free trade, labour and human rights; the promise of EU enlargement; and protection of part-time workers.

Substantial progress has been made in the last 15 years in the areas of European economic, social and monetary integration, aided by social dialogue on employment and industrial relations at the international level. To be truly effective, the social dialogue has to be underpinned by an awareness of the different national industrial relations systems. This two-volume series sets out to provide information on the varied systems found across the EU, describing and analysing the key elements and concepts of industrial relations in the different Member States, from a comparative perspective. The contributions focus on three principal aspects of comparative industrial relations: an analysis of the strikingly similar pressures for industrial relations in each country; the degree to which the institutional arrangements have retained their national identities despite such pressures; and the evolution of industrial relations within this context. Sowohl in der Praxis als auch in der Wissenschaft wird dieses in der betriebswirtschaftliehen Theorie lange Zeit stark ver­ nachlässigte Problem zunehmend diskutiert. Verstärkter Wettbewerbsdruck zwingt die Un­ ternehmensführungen, über die Abstimmung zwischen intern und extern auszuführenden Teilaufgaben jedes Aufgabenbereichs neu nachzudenken, um Höhe und Struktur der Kosten und die Flexiblität der Unternehmung günstig zu beeinflussen. In der Theorie ist die Frage insbesondere durch den Transaktionskostenansatz auf breiteres Interesse gestoßen. Im Vor­ dergrund der vorliegenden Untersuchung steht der Aspekt der Reduktion der außerordent­ lich hohen Komplexität des Problems. Zu ihrer Beherrschung schlägt der Autor nach einer eingehenden Analyse der bisherigen Ansätze ein hierarchisches Planungsvorgehen mit einer strategischen, taktischen und operativen Ebene vor. Mit dieser umfassenden Konzeption lei­ stet er einen bemerkenswerten Beitrag zur Strukturierung des Problems der Bestimmung der Fertigungstiefe von Unternehmen, der sowohl seitens der Wissenschaft als auch seitens der Praxis eine breite Rezeption zu wünschen ist. Kurt Bohr Vorwort Die vorliegende Arbeit entstand während meiner Tätigkeit als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Betriebswirtschaftslehre, insbesondere Industrielle Produktionswirtschaft, der Universität Regensburg. Sie wurde im November 1992 von der Wirtschaftswissenschaft­ lichen Fakultät dieser Universität als Dissertation angenommen. Derartige Arbeiten können nur erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden, wenn sowohl die lehrstuhl­ internen als auch -externen Rahmenbedingungen unterstützend wirken.
