For those who hunger for small bites of horror sweetened with black humor, this collection of Grim Tales and Gothic Fancies offers a satisfying repast: morbidly playful riffs on the faerie tales of the Brothers Grimm; darkly exquisite Gothic fables in both prose and verse; and hell-raising evocations of beings both demonic and diabolic. A rich feast of horrors leavened with wit, Book of Shadows offers a delicious glimpse into the decadent heart and mordant mind of Manuel Arenas. In "The Sanguinary Saga of Morbidezza Vespertilio, Vampiress," Arenas inverts "Sleeping Beauty" with more than a touch of Gothicism in the style of Hammer horror. With "Rosaire, Master of Wolves," he shows us the dark genesis and bloody destiny of a born werewolf. A lighter touch is used in "Gothilocks," a playfully sardonic update on "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." The dread demon of Christmas makes an appearance in "Greetings from Krampus," and in "Nativity in Black: An Anti-Christmas Story," we are presented with a dark celebration featuring all creatures great and infernal in a pageant-quite literally-from Hell. This volume is sumptuously illustrated by Dan Sauer, whose surreal images heighten the effect of the dark fantasies contained herein.

On an island between dream and reality, a young faun named Gabriel is fascinated by the extraordinary new creatures called unicorns. "A magical thing born of nature,” he muses... What mystery surrounds their birth? What place, what function do these mythical animals occupy in this imaginary world? Poetic and musical, The Day of the Unicorn approaches the fantastic from a peaceful, intimate angle. Each page is like a graphical haiku reflecting a feeling or idea rather than an event. The carefully crafted text supports this narrative idea and aims to awaken certain emotions buried in us. Spun from the pages of his unfinished graphic novel series by noted artist and author Manuel Arenas, this poetic fairy tale appeals to the innocence in all of us, exploring the mystery of unicorns from a child’s perspective.

View the world as seen by Manual, a Totonac Indian from Mexico. This trailblazer, educator, civic leader and Christian describes his relationship to the Mexican people and culture, and shares real stories from his travels. Fifteen short stories are brought to life, narrated by Manual himself, ranging from his adventures growing up on tribal Totonac land, to the building of an indigenous school, to his personal spiritual and educational journeys. These tales are informative and cautionary, filled with lessons on Christian values, community building, personal growth, education and authentic leadership. Manuel knew the best way to bring value to his people was through education and a faith in Jesus Christ. Follow Manual's travels, thoughts and stories as he takes us through his life explorations as an evangelical leader, educator and Indian. ""Although we were here first, we know that God put us all here together, and it is my hope that we can learn to live together in harmony and love."" - Manuel Arenas
