Violence against Women in Pornography illuminates the ways in which adult pornography hurts many women, both on and off screen. A growing body of social scientific knowledge shows that it is strongly associated with various types of violence against women in intimate relationships. Many women who try to leave abusive and/or patriarchal men also report that pornography plays a role in the abuse inflicted on them by their ex-partners. On top of these harms, male pornography consumption is strongly correlated with attitudes supporting violence against women. Many researchers, practitioners, and policy makers believe that adult pornography is a major problem and offer substantial evidence supporting this claim. Violence against Women in Pornography, unlike books written mainly for scholarly and general audiences, specifically targets students enrolled in undergraduate criminology, deviance, women’s studies, masculinities studies, human sexuality, and media studies courses. Thoughtful discussion questions are placed at the end of each chapter, and appropriate PowerPoint slides and suggestions for classroom exercises will be available to aid student understanding. The main objective of this book is to motivate readers to think critically about adult pornography and to take progressive steps individually and collectively to curb the production and consumption of hurtful sexual media, including that from the "dark side of the Internet."

The Complexities of Police Corruption provides a comprehensive examination of the role of gender as it relates to police corruption, crime control, and policing as an institution. Author Marilyn Corsianos examines different forms of corruption, including some behaviors that are generally not recognized as corruption by police departments, such as selective law enforcement, racial profiling, gender bias and other discriminatory police practices against marginalized populations.. The book also explores the role of police culture in preserving and defending misconduct and digs into the thorny question of why significantly fewer women are involved in police corruption. Throughout the book, excerpts from interviews with 32 former police offers illustrate the complex ways that gender construction is connected to police corruption and shows how policing as an institution creates corruption risks. The Complexities of Police Corruption is a challenging and insightful book about the intersections between gender and corruption.

Women continue to be underrepresented in policing, and female officers are more likely to work in gender-specific areas within their organizations. Policing and Gendered Justice provides a comprehensive analysis of women and policing in North America. It further enhances the body of knowledge on gender and policing by bridging the gap between theory and practice, and by using an empowerment approach to encourage discussion of the need to make ideological and structural changes and the need to promote social action and social change. Through a critical, feminist examination of gender and policing, and through a comparative analysis of women in policing in Canada and the United States, Corsianos offers a unique and original account of women police officers' experiences and the role that feminist analyses can play in providing greater justice. Only a handful of books have focused on the relationship between gender and policing globally, let alone within North America, making this book a necessary resource for those studying in Criminology and Criminal Justice. For professors wishing to integrate a discussion of gender into a policing course, or for students wanting to better understand the complexities of gender and policing, Policing and Gendered Justice works as an informative, innovative approach to addressing gender differences in the profession.
