This book, 1492, written by Mary Johnston gave us a perspective of what happened after 1492 like no other. The story written in a first person perspective by the man named Jayme de Marchena, takes us around the world with him as he seeks adventure and discovery on the voyages to many lands after the expulsion of The Moors and Moorish Jews, (referred to as Jewess in the book ). In this book, the author accounts to us this fact as he states that there were moors left however, they were turned into Christians, or were made to be slaves, or both. We know that it is also a historical fact that whenever a ruling war fraction take over a country, they will use religion to change the people. What is more interesting about the book is the fact that on page 57 and 109, the quote from Columbus and other ship mates make a clear distinction between Negros and Moors, Spanish, etc. Again, to understand this concept of what the writer is speaking about one must understand that the color of your skin does not make you African. It is a well written piece of historical facts and well worth reading over twice as the story of conquests which is regularly forgotten in our age of computer technology. I urge you to do your own research and cross reference any material in this book as you will find just as I have that the information is not only historically correct, but it tells in a very entertaining way the secrets of World History . -(c)2017 Z. This book offers a comprehensive examination of the generations of women who entered religious life in the United States after 1965. It provides up-to-date demographics for women's religious institutes; a summary of canon law locating religious life within the various forms of life in the Church; an analysis of Church documents on religious life; and data on the views of post-Vatican II entrants regarding ministry, identity, prayer, spirituality, the vows, and community. Beginning each chapter with an engaging narrative, the authors explore how different generations of Catholic women first became attracted to vowed religious life and what kinds of religious institutes they were seeking. By analyzing the results of extensive national surveys, the authors systematically examine how the new generations of Sisters differ from previous ones, and what those changes suggest about the future. The book concludes with recommendations for further understanding of generations within religious life and within the Church and society. Because of its breadth and depth, this book will be regarded by scholars, the media, and practitioners as an essential resource for the sociological study of religious life for women in the United States.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY KIRKUS REVIEWS "A candid, generous, and profound spiritual memoir that deserves a great deal of thoughtful discussion."--Anne Rice At seventeen, Mary Johnson experienced her calling when she saw a photo of Mother Teresa on the cover of Time magazine; eighteen months later she began her training as a Missionary of Charity, a nun in Mother Teresa's order. Not without difficulty, this boisterous, independent-minded teenager eventually adapted to the sisters' austere life of poverty and devotion, but beneath the white-and-blue sari beat the heart of an ordinary young woman who faced daily the simple and profound struggles we all share, the same desires for love and connection. Eventually, after twenty years of service, Johnson left the church to find her own path, but her magnificently told story holds universal truths about the mysteries of faith and how a woman discovers herself. Includes new material: Two reading group guides--for groups that wish to take different approaches to the book; a conversation between Mary Johnson and Mira Bart k, author of The Memory Palace; and Mary Johnson's recommended reading list "A wonderful achievement . . . Johnson opens the window on a horizon of spiritual questions and] takes an unflinching look inside her own heart."--The Christian Science Monitor "An incredible coming-of-age story . . . It] has everything a memoir needs: an inside look at a way of life that most of us will never see, a physical and emotional journey, and suspense."--Slate "Reads like a novel . . . an exacting account of a woman growing into her own soul."--More magazine "Engaging, heartfelt and entertaining . . . Johnson] articulates her struggles with her God in words that will hit home."--Los Angeles Times "An inspiration that transcends any particular religious belief . . . An Unquenchable Thirst is a journey that captivates, but its resonance lies in the life examined."--The Denver Post
