Few filmmakers, if any, make the kind of impact that Martin Scorsese has made on American cinema. The winner of every prestigious film award, including the Oscar, Scorsese is a living legend. Bestselling author and award-winning filmmaker Mary Pat Kelly's groundbreaking biography reveals how this working-class boy from Manhattan's Little Italy became one of our most acclaimed, celebrated, and influential filmmakers. Martin Scorsese: A Journey maps Scorsese's personal and artistic evolution though his films, from early works like student films and Mean Streets through cinematic masterpieces like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, Goodfellas. Across interviews with Scorsese himself; stars like Robert De Niro, Paul Newman, Liza Minelli, and Nick Nolte; colleagues including screenwriters and cinematographers; as well as family and friends, it reveals the story of a man in a way that only his community and fellow artists can, giving us unprecedented, intimate access to the making of these iconic films and the extraordinary mind behind them. Brimming with insight into Scorsese's life, values, process, humor, and inspirations, it is a remarkable account of America's premiere director, the shepherd of countless imaginations.

Just five hours after radio contact was first made with Basher 52--O'Grady's call sign--the Air Force captain was safely on board the USS Kearsarge. The downed F-16 fighter pilot's rescue from a Bosnian mountainside by Col. Martin Berndt's 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit electrified the nation in June 1995 and renewed many Americans' faith in the military. To get the inside account, Mary Pat Kelly traveled to U. S. ships and bases and UN posts in Croatia and Bosnia where participants were stationed to conduct more than one hundred interviews. Adm. Leighton W. Smith Jr., commander in chief of U. S. naval forces in Europe and head of NATO forces in the Southern European theater, provides a day-to-day commentary on the efforts to find Captain O'Grady. This edition contains an interview with Brig. Gen. Selmo Cikotíc, former Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who discusses the dangerous conditions on the ground during the rescue and the impact the success of the mission had on NATO expansion in the area.

GALWAY BAY is the story of an Irish family that has been shaped by the traditional elements of Ireland in the decade leading up to the 1840's--the tales, music, humor, community, and religious practices - but that will also be irrevocably shaped by 'the Great Hunger' - the potato famine - and its inescapable suffering. Two sisters from this family will not only survive the famine but also emigrate to America to constitute a vital part of the American melting pot, and to forge new lives for themselves. One of these two sisters is Honora who, in the course of her life, will experience two love stories -- one in Ireland, and one in America. This is a story of people living through incredibly turbulent times who have everything taken away from them--their families, their homes, their nourishment--yet somehow they survive and triumph. Ultimately, this is a story of survival, what we do to overcome adversity, and how we find strength when circumstances demand it.
