Matilda udgives i Gyldendal Lunar - serien for litteraturhistoriens mørke klassikere.

Mary Shelley, an English author, wrote the novel Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus, in 1818. Frankenstein is the narrative of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who produces a sentient monster in an unconventional scientific experiment. Shelley started writing the narrative at 18, and at 20, she anonymously published the first edition in London on January 1, 1818. The second edition, published in Paris in 1821, first mentioned her name. Frankenstein incorporates aspects of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement, and the work has had a significant impact on literature and popular culture, inspiring a whole genre of horror stories, films, and plays. Since the novel's publication, people have frequently incorrectly used the name "Frankenstein" to refer to the monster instead of his creator or parent. Shelley's efforts to publish her husband's works and her novel Frankenstein, which remains widely read and has inspired numerous theatrical and film versions, were her most notable achievements until the 1970s. Recent scholarship has provided a more comprehensive understanding of Shelley's accomplishments. Scholars are becoming interested in her literary output, particularly her novels, which include the historical novels Valperga (1823) and Perkin Warbeck (1830), the apocalyptic novel The Last Man (1826), and her last two novels, Lodore (1835) and Falkner (1837).

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is a masterpiece of gothic literature that delves into the depths of human ambition and the consequences of playing god. Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist, creates a being from discarded body parts and galvanizes it to life, but the result is a creature more monster than man. What follows is a gripping exploration of morality, responsibility, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge. As Victor's experiment spirals out of control, the novel explores themes of isolation, revenge, and societal rejection. The creature, often portrayed as a symbol of misunderstood otherness, seeks empathy and connection. Shelley's haunting narrative, rich in atmospheric description, invites readers into a world of moral ambiguity and the darker side of innovation.

Title: FrankensteinAuthor: Mary ShelleyDescription: "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley is a groundbreaking work of science fiction and gothic literature that continues to captivate readers with its timeless exploration of the consequences of unchecked scientific ambition and the nature of humanity. First published in 1818, this novel is as relevant and thought-provoking today as it was over two centuries ago. The story revolves around the brilliant but tormented scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who becomes obsessed with the idea of creating life from inanimate matter. Driven by a relentless pursuit of knowledge and power, he succeeds in animating a creature, but the result is far from the idealized vision he had in mind. The "Frankenstein's monster" he brings to life is a grotesque and misunderstood being, abandoned by its creator and left to navigate a world that shuns and fears it. Mary Shelley's narrative is framed by a series of letters and stories within stories, adding layers to the novel's structure. The novel explores themes of scientific ethics, the pursuit of knowledge at any cost, the consequences of human actions, and the question of what it means to be truly human. It delves into the moral implications of creation and the power of societal acceptance or rejection. The character of the monster, often mistakenly referred to as Frankenstein, is a complex and sympathetic figure who longs for understanding and acceptance in a world that treats him with revulsion. The novel's exploration of his experiences and emotions challenges readers to reflect on empathy, compassion, and the consequences of alienation." Frankenstein" is not merely a tale of horror, but a profound work of philosophical and ethical reflection that has influenced the science fiction genre and sparked countless discussions on the responsibility of scientific and technological advancements. Mary Shelley's eloquent prose and the enduring relevance of her themes make "Frankenstein" a must-read for anyone interested in literature, ethics, and the enduring human fascination with the limits of knowledge and the power of creation.
