The Rapid Prototyping Game

The Rapid Prototyping Game

The Rapid Prototyping Game provides a "systems design" vehicle where players can group basic game elements into manageable categories. They then define and isolate specific elements so they can analyze how they interact with each other in a game they develop. Through gameplay, players are able to critically identify how adding, subtracting, or combining game elements can create dynamic changes in a game. The Rapid Prototyping Game will appeal to experienced game designers who are stuck in a rut, beginning game designers who need to learn how systems design and the iterative process works, and also to the educator who wants to introduce a "hands on approach" to the classroom.

A boy’s wish to be a star wrestler is granted in this wacky middle-grade fantasy Ollie and his older brother, Hollis, have wrestling in their blood: Their mom was a pro whose dreams of stardom were dashed by a devious opponent. Now she’s an overworked, underpaid ref at Slamdown Town, the local arena. Ollie’s goal in life is to win the golden championship belt for his mom—immediately followed by his other goal: to hang his bully of a brother from the roof by his tightie-whities. But there’s one problem: Ollie inherited their estranged dad’s puny frame, while Hollis got their mom’s brawn. Thus Ollie has resigned himself to a fate of wrestling mediocrity and wet willies . . . until the day Hollis gifts him a piece of stale gum and forces him to chew it. Ollie soon discovers that the gum—bought on eBay and formerly chewed by a wrestling legend— has an unusual side effect: the ability to physically transform Ollie into a pro wrestler. As Big Chew, Ollie’s finally able to put Hollis in his place and be a star. But when trouble befalls his family, being Big Chew gets a lot more complicated. In the end, Ollie knows he can’t have it all; and it’s only when he asks himself who he really is that he learns what it means to be a champion.

In the operations of the current security industry, attempts to maximize profits have replaced ethical priorities. Instead of seeking security personnel who exemplify high standards of performance, the industry leadership has sought the lowest standard of performance in order to undercut competitors with similarly low standards, creating a downward race toward supposedly acceptable minimum. In the author's experience, the downward race has fallen significantly below an acceptable level, and the result is a web of unethical behavior from industry leadership which seeks to conceal performance failures. In typical security operations, the requirement for a high quality written report in the aftermath of an emergency is presented to personnel which have received little or no training in writing reports. Current industry leadership does not hold personnel accountable to write high quality reports, and allows persons to continue in positions of responsibility even after proven inability to meet acceptable levels of performance in report writing. In a security operation which is lead in an ethical manner, the performance standard for written reports in emergency events will be built on a foundation of proven competence in writing routine reports. The acceptable standard for reports is clarity, accuracy, and completeness. When any type of emergency event occurs, and a high quality report is required, writing the report should be something the person has done before and does regularly. To remove this foundation, and to lower the expectations for routine reports, it to prepare personnel for failure. It is the mission of Sixth Training Group to present an alternative to the ethical failures of the current security industry. To that end, the author has prepared a suite of standardized report forms, along with a standardized method of entering information, with many example entries included which may illustrate best practices for written reporting across a wide range of routine and emergency events. These report forms are designed for use with the standardized training requirements published by Sixth Training Group. A companion handbook is available which contains the example entries, and has an additional section devoted to reporting on incidents involving use of force. If personnel leading security operations implement a standardized reporting system, and enforce standardized performance through challenging and relevant training, it will be possible to conduct operations at a high level of consistency. During training, all simulations and field exercises should have a reporting requirement after the debriefing. Leaders should be on hand to provide guidance during the written reporting phase. The reporting system used during training, should be fully standardized with the system used during actual operations. During actual operations, all personnel must be held to high performance standards for report writing, in order to provide all personnel with correct examples of reports during operations, which will reinforce the skills learned during training and provide a foundation for continuing high performance.
Itr 1000.19.a: Ethical Protection Standards for Personnel Involved in Security Operations, Individual Training Requirements, 2019 Edi
In the operations of the current security industry, attempts to maximize profits have replaced ethical priorities. Instead of seeking security personnel who exemplify high standards of performance, the industry leadership has sought the lowest standard of performance in order to undercut competitors with similarly low standards, creating a downward race toward a supposedly acceptable minimum. In the author's experience, the downward race has fallen significantly below an acceptable level, and the result is a web of unethical behavior from industry leadership which seeks to conceal performance failures. In typical security operations, lip service is paid to vigilance, watchfulness, and observation, yet personnel are given little to no training in observation. Current industry leadership does not hold personnel accountable to best practices in observation, and allows persons to continue in positions of responsibility even after proven inability to meet acceptable levels of performance in observation. In a security operation which is led in an ethical manner, the performance standard for observation will be spelled out in a detailed and objective manner. The acceptable standard will be implemented in all training and in regular performance reviews. The failure of the current security industry extends beyond observation. It includes refusal to define standards of performance for other critical areas such as emergency tasks, verbal communication, use of force, and decision-making. It is the mission of Sixth Training Group to present an ethical alternative to the failures of the current security industry. To that end, the author has prepared an array of standards which attempt to define a standardized level of performance which may be an acceptable minimum for all persons engaged in security operations. The standards have been given a numbering system which allows each standard to be individually identified. The six categories of observation, decision-making, use of force, verbal communication, emergency task performance, and personal performance is hoped to be both logical and useful. In general, each standard presents a summary statement for a skill, task, or an area of understanding. It is recognized that there may be more than a single way to achieve these various states, but for most of them, the author is convinced that there is a benefit to requiring standardized skills, abilities, and knowledge. After the summary statement, each standard presents one or more knowledge areas which represent the minimum level of competent understanding. It is the author's conviction that it is in no way excessive to expect professionals to have a thorough understanding of about twenty pages of material. Finally, each standard will spell out the abilities which must be demonstrated in a standardized simulation or field exercise. If an individual cannot achieve these target levels of performance under controlled conditions, it is virtually certain that they will fail in the course of actual operations.

During training, the handbook may serve as an aid for new personnel when writing reports following simulations and field exercises. It may also serve as a benchmark for instructors to evaluate performance in report writing. During actual security operations, the handbook may serve as a helpful guide to ensure that essential information is gathered and presented in an organized manner.

While recruitment efforts toward men of color have increased at many colleges and universities, their retention and graduation rates still lag behind those of their white peers. Men of color, particularly black and Latino men, face a number of unique challenges in their educational careers that often impact their presence on campus and inhibit their collegiate success. Empowering Men of Color on Campus examines how men of color negotiate college through their engagement in Brothers for United Success (B4US), an institutionally-based male-centered program at a Hispanic Serving Institution. Derrick R. Brooms, Jelisa Clark, and Matthew Smith introduce the concept of educational agency, which is harbored in cultural wealth and demonstrates how ongoing B4US engagement empowers the men’s efforts and abilities to persist in college. They found that the cultural wealth(s) of the community enhanced the students’ educational agency, which bolstered their academic aspirations, academic and social engagement, and personal development. The authors demonstrate how educational agency and cultural wealth can be developed and refined given salient and meaningful immersions, experiences, engagements, and communal connections.
