Baron Hilton, the cruel Lord of the Manor, returned to Wharram Percy after the Civil War and now has a fiendish scheme to be rid of his peasant tenants. Tom is determined to thwart him as all is not what it seems. He travels to York with the parish priest, Father Michael, to enlist the help of Sir George Percy, second cousin to the powerful 5th Earl of Northumberland.
