A perfect guide to understanding finances and a powerhouse of time-tested principles to gain and retain personal wealth, The Richest Man in Babylon has been inspiring readers for generations. It continues to remain a classic bestseller.

This book develops the concept of racialisation. It argues that a full understanding of racialized discourse must pay attention to both the particular local circumstances in which they appear, and well-established themes which have unfolded over time. An important aspect of the study is the examination of other discourses with which racialized ideas have co-joined, reflecting the way in which notions of 'race' are socially constructed. The final part of the book returns to debates of the 1980’s and argues that the racialisation of unrest in that decade was closely intertwined with conservative perspectives which sought to deny socio-economic causes in favour of explanations based upon the supposed cultural or personal proclivities of those involved.

Clinical Oncology and Error Reduction fills a gap - the lack of a single volume on medical error in the vast field of cancer care - that has existed since a 1999 Institute of Medicine’s report introduced the term ‘medical error’ as a topic for doctors and patients alike. The volume, edited by Antonella Surbone, M. D., a clinical oncologist and Michael Rowe, Ph. D., a medical sociologist, includes chapters written by experts on the topic including physicians, nurses, patients, and advocates, and covers a wide range of topics essential to an understanding of the unique character, challenges, and needed responses to the risk, incidence, and aftermath of medical error in the diagnosis, treatment, and aftermath of treatment for cancer. Clinical Oncology and Error Reduction will serve as the standard for framing the discussion of error in the field for oncologists, epidemiologists, nurses, healthcare administrators, researchers, and scholars. An indispensable handbook for all clinical oncologists, their staff, nurses, and oncology residents and fellows, this book: Contains practical information for immediate clinical applicationCovers topics such as patient safety, error prevention, quality improvement, errors disclosure and apology, and the impact of errors on patients and doctorsEach chapter contains special "take home" points that highlight issues of particular clinical relevance and applicationPrepared by an expert, multidisciplinary, international team of physicians, nurses, researchers, hospital administrators, bioethicists, patients and patient advocates Dr. Surbone shared with ASCO Connection her insights about patient safety and medical errors and offered a glimpse into the history that led to this new book:https://connection.asco.org/magazine/features/opening-dialogue-about-medical-errors

More than 50 years ago, President Kennedy gave an address to Congress that launched the community mental health movement in the U. S. This movement involved a vast and complex effort to replace the wholesale institutionalization of people with serious mental illnesses with community mental health centers, public education on mental illness, and prevention efforts. The mission and main thrust of this new movement, however, were quite simple: we would provide effective mental health treatment to people in their home communities and provide the conditions for them to have 'a life in the community.' Starting in the 1990s with Jim, a person who was homeless and initially refused help from outreach workers, Citizenship & Mental Health tells a 20-year story of practice, theory, and research to support the full participation of persons with mental illnesses who, in many cases, have also been homeless, have criminal charges in their past, and are poor. As the first of its kind, this book addresses the concept of citizenship as an applied theory for fulfilling the promise of the community mental health center movement. Citizenship is defined as a strong connection to the 5 R's of rights, responsibilities, roles, resources, and relationships that society offers to its members, and a sense of belonging that comes from others' recognition of one's valued membership in society. The citizenship model supports the strengths, hopes, and aspirations of people with mental illnesses to become neighbors, community members, and citizens.

This book takes a lofty vision of "recovery" and of "a life in the community" for every adult with a serious mental illness promised by the U. S. President's 2003 New Freedom Commission on Mental Health and shows the reader what is entailed in making this vision a reality. Beginning with the historical context of the recovery movement and its recent emergence on the center stage of mental health policy around the world, the authors then clarify various definitions of mental health recovery and address the most common misconceptiosn of recovery held by skeptical practitioners and wroried families. With this framework in place, the authors suggest fundamental principles for recovery-oreinted care, a set of concrete practice guidelines developed in and for the field, a recovery guide model of practice as an alternative to clinical case management, and tools to self-assess the recovery orientation of practices and practitioners. In doing so, this volume represents the first book to go beyond the rhetoric of recovery to its implementation in everyday practice. Much of this work was developed with the State of Connecticut's Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, helping the state to win a #1 ranking in the recent NAMI report card on state mental health authorities. Since initial development of these principles, guidelines, and tools in Connecticut, the authors have become increasingly involved in refining and tailoring this approach for other systems of care around the globe as more and more governments, ministry leaders, system managers, practitioners, and people with serious mental illnesses nad their families embrace the need to transform mental health services to promote recovery and community inclusion. If you've wondered what all of the recent to-do has been about with the notion of "recovery" in mental health, this book explains it. In addition, it gives you an insider's view of the challenges and strategies involved in transforming to recovery and a road map to follow on the first few steps down this exciting, promising, and perhaps long overdue path.

Napoleon's contribution to Germany's development was immense. Under his hegemony, the millennium-old Holy Roman Empire dissolved, paving the way for a new order. Nowhere was the transformation more profound than in the Rhineland. Based upon an extensive range of German and French archival sources, this book locates the Napoleonic episode in this region within a broader chronological framework, encompassing the Old Regime and Restoration. It analyses not only politics, but also culture, identity, religion, society, institutions and economics. It reassesses in turn the legacy bequeathed by the Old Regime, the struggle between Revolution and Counter-Revolution in the 1790s, Napoleon's attempts to integrate the German-speaking Rhineland into the French Empire, the transition to Prussian rule, and the subsequent struggles that ultimately helped determine whether Germany would follow its own Sonderweg or the path of its western neighbours.

This book explores the key issues of racism, anti-racism and identity in British football. It relates the history of black players in the game, analyses the racism they have experienced, and evaluates the efficacy of anti-racist campaigns. The efficacy of the policing of racism is also assessed. The nationalism and xenophobia evident in much of the media's coverage of major tournaments is highlighted in the context of the way that English, Scottish and Welsh identities are constructed within British football.

Religion has held a unique place in Soviet society: it is the only officially tolerated form of divergent ideology. Successive constitutions since 1917 have guaranteed "freedom to perform religious rites." In this volume, eleven authors survey the history and current situation of religion. They look at the Russian Orthodox Church and other Christian bodiesóProtestant, Catholic, and Orthodoxóand also at Judaism, Buddhism, and Islam. They describe the laws and the government agencies used to repress and persecute religious believers, how various religious bodies have responded to repression, and the prospects for reform under the initiatives of Mikhail Gorbachev.
