A New System of Alternating Current Motors and Transformers and Other Essays
Nikola Tesla was a genius who revolutionized how the world looks at electricity. During college his professors explained that it was impossible to design an engine without commutators or brushes. Tesla was unconvinced that such was necessary or even particularly desirable. It was then that Tesla began his work on the rotating field motor that ultimately gave birth to the modern age. In May of 1888, Tesla delivered his lecture "A New System of Alternating Current Motors and Transformers" before The American Institute of Electrical Engineers and the world has never been the same.
The Problem of Increasing Human Energy, with Special References to the Harnessing of the Sun's Energy
The Problem of Increasing Human Energy: With Special References to the Harnessing of the Sun's Energy is a work written by inventor and physicist, Nikola Tesla. This work was developed largely based on his acquired knowledge as both a mechanical and electrical engineer, and focuses on his ideas for the survival of the human race. Today with the fears of global warming, this Tesla work has been used as a starting point for understanding the problems that the human race could be facing. The Problem of Increasing Human Energy is highly recommended for individuals who are interested in scientific ideas toward the longevity of the human race and those interested in key writings of Nikola Tesla.
Inventions, Researches and Writings of Nikola Tesla (Barnes & Noble Collectible Classics: Omnibus Edition)
The Inventions, Researches and Writings of Nikola Tesla is the definitive record of the pioneering work of one of the modern world's most groundbreaking inventors. During the early twentieth century, Tesla blazed the trail that electrical technology followed for decades afterward. Although he pioneered inventions like alternating current (AC), radio, wireless transmission, and X-rays, and worked with innovators like George Westinghouse and Thomas Edison, the once-celebrated Tesla was later largely forgotten by history. This beautiful leatherbound edition brings together many of the findings and theories that made this genius famous (and to some, infamous), showing not only the scope of Nikola Tesla's theories and inventions, but allowing contemporary readers to experience the visionary range of his thinking. In addition to its many detailed reproductions of Tesla's patents and inventions, this highly collectible book includes dozens of thought-provoking lectures and articles. The Inventions, Researches and Writings of Nikola Tesla affords a rare glimpse of a true genius at work.
Experiments with Alternate Currents of High Potential and High Frequency
Excerpt from Experiments With Alternate Currents of High Potential and High Frequency: A Lecture Delivered Before the Institution of Electrical Engineers, London The boy was early put to his books, and upon his father's removal to Gospic he spent four years in the public school, and later, three years in the Real School, as it is called. His escapades were such as most quickwitted boys go through, although be varied the programme on one oc casion by getting imprisoned in a remote mountain chapel rarely visited for service; and on another occasion by fall ing headlong into a huge kettle of boiling milk, just drawn from the paternal herds. A third curious episode was that connected with his efforts to fly when, attempting to navigate the air with the aid of an old umbrella, he had, as might be expected, a very bad fall, and was laid up for six weeks.

Nikola Tesla was born in Croatia (then part of Austria-Hungary) on July 9, 1856, and died January 7, 1943. He was the electrical engineer who invented the AC (alternating current) induction motor, which made the universal transmission and distribution of electricity possible. Tesla began his studies in physics and mathematics at Graz Polytechnic, and then took philosophy at the University of Prague. He worked as an electrical engineer in Budapest, Hungary, and subsequently in France and Germany. In 1888 his discovery that a magnetic field could be made to rotate if two coils at right angles are supplied with AC current 90 out of phase made possible the invention of the AC induction motor. The major advantage of this motor being its brush less operation, which many at the time believed impossible.

THIS IS A NEW EDITION of the famous series of articles by Nikola Tesla that appeared in The Electrical Experimenter magazine in 1919. Gathered together, they are unique in providing a glimpse into Tesla's mind and his private thoughts. It tells about the man, his motivations and the values that he held. The articles have been fully edited, and reformatted, and new illustrations have been added throughout. This is the best version of this text that is available. Reviews "Awesome book. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the life and works of Nikola Tesla. Not only is it an invitation to one of the greatest minds of the last century but a chance to get to know Tesla as a person, as the book is filled with anecdotes of his early life." "This book was nothing short of inspirational. I am in no way an electrical expert but this book makes me want to start a career in electrical engineering. After reading this informative autobiography of one of the world greatest inventors, I started researching ways to learn basic electrical components and how they work hands-on" "If you know who Tesla was and his contribution to the civilized world of electronics then I do not need to say any more. This is not a technical book but an overview of his life and background material for his basic contributions." "Genius, genius, genius....the greatest electrical engineer who ever lived. Cannot get enough of his work. This book is a must read for anyone in the electrical engineering profession. He is responsible for so much of what we take for granted today including our whole system for generation and distribution of AC electricity. Thank you Tesla, and thank you to the publishers for perpetuating his legacy." CONTENTS 1. My Early Life 2. My First Efforts at Invention 3. My Later Endeavors 4. The Discovery of the Tesla Coil and Transformer 5. The Magnifying Transmitter 6. The Art of Telautomatics The first chapter of another title by Nikola Tesla, The Problem of Increasing Human Energy, also published by A Distant Mirror, is included.
