Our righteous father John of Kronstadt (Иоанн Кронштадский; October 19, 1829, in Sura - December 20, 1908, in Kronstadt) was an archpriest of the Russian Orthodox Church. He was born as Ivan Ilyich Sergiyev (Иван Ильич Сергиев) in 1829. From 1855, he served as a priest in St. Andrew's cathedral in Kronstadt. Here, he wholly committed himself to charity, especially for those who were remote from the church. He established a factory to provide employment for the poor, and endlessly gave away his money to the needy. traveled extensively throughout the Russian empire. He was a member of the right extremist movement Sojuz Russkogo Naroda (Alliance of the Russian people) but did not commit himself politically. He was already greatly venerated at the time he died. He was glorified by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in 1964 and by the Russian Orthodox Church on June 8, 1990. St. John Maximovitch of Shanghai and San Francisco played an active role in preparation of St. John's canonization.

The Blessed Archbishop Theophylact of Bulgaria lived and ministered during the second half of the 11th century AD. Trained as a scholar and cleric at the patriarchal academy in Constantinople, he spent the bulk of his career as a missionary in Ohrid on the outskirts of the Byzantine Empire. During that time, he wrote a series of commentaries on most of the books of the New Testament and some of the prophets, which are beloved to this day for their wisdom and penetrating insights.

Our venerable and God-bearing Father Daniel the Hermit of Voroneț, Sf. Daniil Sihastru de la Voroneţ in Romanian, was a 15th century monk and the spiritual father of Stephen the Great, the Voievod of Moldova. Under his guidance, Stephen the Great defended Moldova from Ottoman invasion and dedicated himself and his rule to God. Daniel lived alone for 14 years in a cell carved from a boulder in a forested valley close to Putna Monastery, which is now used as a chapel according to the rules of Mount Athos. His relics are housed at Voroneț Monastery, and he was officially glorified by the Synod of the Church of Romania in 1992. He fell asleep in 1496, and his feast day is December 18.
