On an afternoon 2,000 years ago, a couple of friends were walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus. A very ordinary–looking man joined them and asked what they were talking about. This was a strange question as one event had dominated most people’s conversations that weekend: the execution of Jesus of Nazareth. However, the ordinary–looking man was not as clueless as they first thought… “beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself”. You see, their fellow–traveler wasn’t just a random guy – he was Jesus himself. This book will take us into that conversation Jesus had with Cleopas and his friend and what he was trying to help them understand. It will take us on a tour of some of what “Moses and all the Prophets” said about Jesus. Who were they talking to? What did it mean to those people? How was any of it about Jesus? We will look at thirty different places in the Bible where you can find a prophecy about Jesus. Each chapter has the following extra features: Prophet & DatesProphecy MadeThen and ThereProphecy FulfilledScarlet ThreadApplicationPrayer
Butrint 6: Excavations on the Vrina Plain Volume 3
Butrint 6 describes the excavations carried out on the Vrina Plain by the Butrint Foundation from 2002–2007. Lying just to the south of the ancient port city of Butrint, these excavations have revealed a 1,300 year long story of a changing community that began in the 1st century AD, one which not only played its part in shaping the city of Butrint but also in how the city interacted and at times reacted to the changing political, economic and cultural situations occurring across the Mediterranean World over this period. Volume III discusses the Roman and Late Antique pottery from the Vrina Plain excavations. This detailed study of the ceramics follows the archaeological sequence recovered from the excavations in chronological order and provides a comprehensive and in depth review of the pottery, context by context, offering an important insight into the supply, as well as typology, of local and imported pottery available to the inhabitants of the Vrina Plain during this period. This is followed by a discussion on how the pottery trends found on the Vrina Plain relate to that of other sites in Butrint, both within the town (Triconch Palace; the Forum) and outside (Vrina Plain training school villa excavations; the villa of Diaporit). The volume also presents an overview of some of the principal typological developments found across Butrint so as to allow the reader to place the Vrina finds in context, including a discussion of a number of key contexts from the Forum, as well as the findings from thin-section petrology of some of the ceramics.

The text provides information on the core elements of the subject of marketing without the depth that often surrounds these to ensure that the basic concepts are easily identifiable and accessible. Students on MBA courses often do not have time to read a long text as they are studying many subjects, therefore they require a good, basic guide pitched at the appropriate level to be able to be absorbed quickly but still provide enough of a strategic element to stretch them. Written by a successful author team, Management of Marketing covers the key topics of the marketing component of an MBA course and provides a good balance of theory and application to ensure both aspects of the core concepts are covered.

During its development and at the time that the south Wales iron industry was at its most successful the only way (other than by personal contact) in which contact between the different branches of the industry could be maintained was by letter. Thus the postal service - both the General Post Office and a multiplicity of private posts - made a vital contribution to the success of the industry which so far has received little attention. This work traces the development of the postal service in the south Wales valleys from its primitive state in the mid-18th century to what had become a recognisably modern postal service a hundred years later. It is based on information derived from the archives of the Post Office itself and of the various iron companies, from contemporary newspapers and from oral tradition recorded by later historians in the Valleys.

This important and substantial scholarly book, well illustrated with tables, line drawings and maps, is the first to gather together and review the evidence for trends in production of table wares and amphora-borne goods across the Iberian Peninsula and Balearics from the second to the seventh century AD. In it Paul Reynolds analyses trends in Iberian exports across the Roman Empire and offers a detailed synthesis of Roman trade in fine wares, coarse wares and amphora-borne goods and shipping routes, from the Black Sea and eastern Mediterranean to the western Empire, the Atlantic coast and Britain. The book draws on both published excavation reports and papers, and provides new, unpublished data from the author's past and continuing work in Beirut, Athens, Butrint, Durres, Carthage, 'Lepcis Magna' and 'Zeugma', to provide an unprecedented overview and synthesis.

Sex in the City explains how the organised prostitution rackets work in this country. It does so through the lives and activities of the main people involved. It maps the origins and development of their enterprises and charts the growth of their multi-million euro businesses. It identifies the people at the top who ran the brothels, the type of women they employed and the individuals who supported their criminal enterprises. The men and women come from all walks of life and social classes. Wealthy middle and upper class professionals such as doctors, lawyers, businessmen and priests all paid to have sex with prostitutes in the brothels, in their offices or in their own homes. And it's not just sex with women and men they seek. There is a disturbing demand in Irish society for sex with young teenagers and children. In 1997 an Eastern Health Board study found that 57 boys and girls were working as prostitutes. A 14-year-old child prostitute was found in one of the brothels. Hundreds of men paid to have sex with her. Two members of the Garda Siochana approached brothels and prostitutes while they were serving in the force looking for sex with children. Kieran O'Halloran, who had himself been raped as a teenager and Gerard Lynch, were both caught and sent to prison. The link between the vice trade, prostitution and paedophilia cannot be ignored. Prostitution is big business. It's estimated to be worth at least 7 billion a year worldwide, GBP750 million sterling a year in Britain. There are no definitive statistics for Ireland, but based on these figures and the amounts the brothel keepers alone earn it must be worth over 100 million here. Sex in the City tells the full story of the business: who ran it, how they operated, how the money was split. It is long look at a murky corner of modern Ireland.

This lively and engaging text introduces students to the major debates and data on the information society, and at the same time teaches them how to research it. It gives an overview of: * theorists of the information society, particularly Manuel Castells and Daniel Bell * social research methodologies, including positivist, interpretivist, critical and cultural * qualitative and quantitative research methods and criteria for social science evaluation. Drawing on a rich body of empirical work, it explores three core themes of information society debates: the transformation of culture through the information revolution, changing patterns of work and employment and the reconfiguration of time and space in everyday life. In exploring these, the reader is introduced through case-studies, activities, and questions for discussion, to the practicalities of doing social research and the nature of social science argument and understanding.

The Entrepreneurial Process

The Entrepreneurial Process

Entrepreneurship is an extremely important, but little understood, component of the U. S. economy. This book aids that understanding by exploring the challenges and outcomes of the start-up phases of new firms. This is the first detailed, large-scale, longitudinally-based analysis of the entrepreneurial process. Three representative samples of new firms and two representative samples of nascent entrepreneurs (those attempting to start new firms) are used to consider a variety of factors that affect successful completion of the major transitions in the life of new businesses: conception, birth, and early development (survival and growth). Surprisingly, a substantial minority of start-ups become operational new firms. Among the many lessons the authors learn are that although new firm growth appears to reflect many factors, initial size is of special consequence. Not only are many general insights for entrepreneurs revealed, but the authors also pay special attention to the involvement of women and minorities in entrepreneurship and suggest effective government policy for different stages in the entrepreneurial process.
Trade in the Western Mediterranean AD 400-700: The ceramic evidence
This mammoth study of regional trends in imports of pottery and foodstuffs in the Western Mediterranean in the late Roman, Visigothic and Early Arab periods grows out of the author's fieldwork in the Vinalopo Valley (Alicante). Discerning significant differences to other West Mediterranean contexts in the sources of imported pottery there, Reynolds went on to explore the composition of fine ware, coarse ware and amphora assemblages in a large sample of other, mainly coastal, sites. Out of this mass of material (the catalogue of which takes up about two thirds of the volume) significant trends over time emerge, reflecting changes in taxation, shipping routes and the waxing and waning geopolitical influence of the North African litoral.
