Den spanske forfatter Pedro Antonio de Alarcóns ”Den trekantede hat” er en humoristisk og satirisk skæmtefortælling om en forførelsesintrige i en landsby i Andalusien i starten af 1800-tallet. Den smukke og eftertragtede Señora Frasquita er lykkeligt gift med den rare men mindre heldigt udseende møller, Lucas. Den grådige, manipulerende og lidet flatterende borgmester Don Eugenio forsøger at bruge sin magt til at vinde Frasquitas gunst bag ryggen på hendes tilsyneladende intetanende mand. Imidlertid fører Don Eugenios listige plot ham ind i komiske situationer frem for romantiske sejre.
