A page-turning story about a presidential election campaign with more than its share of twists, turns, and surprises. Kati Case is 37 and in her third term in the House of Representatives. Four years before, she masterminded her widower father's unsuccessful campaign for the presidency but nonetheless saw him appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court as a consolation prize. Now, she's trying again, promoting the candidacy of handsome Senator and former Hollywood studio executive Wilson Burnett, not only Kati's chosen candidate, but her bed-mate as well. But Kati - described by the press as having "movie-star looks" and called, to her annoyance, "Princess of the Potomac" - has an uphill fight. First, Senator Burnett needs to wrest the nomination from the incumbent, the bumbling President Bromwell, who is even worse than he seems. If the Senator succeeds, there's still the opposing party's candidate to overcome. All the while, Kati has a to deal with her own ambitions, anxieties and reservations about what she's doing, as well as her significant relationship issues.
