Education and Training for the Oil and Gas Industry: Localising Oil and Gas Operations, Volume Four in the Getenergy series will set out the case for localising the oil and gas operations within hydrocarbon-producing countries. The focus of this final Volume in the series will be to explore the value of engaging with local suppliers, local talent and other local stakeholders in the exploration and production of oil and gas resources. Specifically, we will set out an agenda around which operators and service companies can coalesce and that highlights the ways in which smart, targeted investments in education, training and local infrastructure can create a new way of doing business, particularly in developing or emerging energy economies. Getenergy Intelligence have developed a unique tool to evaluate the potential cost benefits of localisation for any given project. This volume lays out the rationale, methodology and processes we have developed to successfully map out localisation and implement strategic capacity development for oil and gas operations. The significant cost benefits of localisation have been recognised by a number of major oil and gas companies, but localisation is still an aspect of doing business that is poorly understood by much of the global industry. In the first section of this book, the authors provide the rationale for localisation and layout the core reasons for developing the tool. In the second section, the tool is described and the exact methodology is explained. In the final section the authors provide three case studies, demonstrating the tool in action and showing how we are able to measure the cost effectiveness and wider value of a coherent approach to localisation.

The third book in the Getenergy Guides series, The Evolution of Four Energy Nations considers how four very different countries have evolved as oil and gas-producing nations and how the interventions of government, industry and the education and training sector have addressed workforce and skills development challenges in each of these countries. This volume will explore – in each case – the historical growth of the industry, the dynamics of the industry today and the projected direction of travel for the industry in the future. Within this context, the volume will examine the nature of the skills and workforce demands that each country has experienced and will analyze the influence of policy initiatives (including those related to the establishment and running of national oil companies), the impact of industry activities, and the role of education and training providers. Each of these four extended case studies will reveal what we can learn from past and recent experiences. The case studies will also explore the extent to which the effectiveness of approaches to skills and workforce development within the oil and gas industry are contextual and what commonalities there are in terms of success factors. The Guide will conclude with a set of observations regarding best (and worst) practices that can inform future interventions in hydrocarbon-producing nations across the world.

The detailed specialist reports in this volume cover all the Saxon and later finds recovered during the reported excavations, including human bone and animal bone, and environmental remains and dating evidence relating to contemporary landscape, subsistence and economy. Fifth to early 6th-century pottery was recovered from the Northfleet villa site, including from demolition layers over the Roman buildings, nine sunken-featured buildings and the area of the Saxon mill. The metal small finds come largely from 36 graves in two cemeteries, which contained 30 individuals. A small quantity of smithing slag was recovered as well as ceramic building material, fired clay and daub and objects of bone. A wooden bowl and a very early example of a wood plane are unusual finds. The animal bone assemblage is largely comprised of domestic animals indicating mixed farming supplemented by a little hunting and with charred plant remains from locally grown crops.
