In 1969, while serving in the Peace Corp in Central America, Phil Hoysradt and Spencer Beebe decided to build a boat. Starting with the idea of a big, dugout canoe, it evolved into building a 32-foot Tahiti Ketch from blueprints bought for five dollars from Popular Mechanics magazine. This book tells the story of Peregrin Took, from the many challenges of building a boat on a beach in Costa Rica to, ultimately, sailing west around the world.
