This is a reproduction of the original book published in 1879. Such being the point of God's message through Paul to the churches of Galatia, it should be easy for all who have spiritual discernment to perceive the great need for the preaching of the same message to His people who are now in the world. For there be many who, though they are quite clear as to God's way of salvation for sinners, display nevertheless a very imperfect comprehension of the way in which His saints should walk, according to "the doctrine of Christ," recorded in the Gospels as coming from His own lips, and unfolded, amplified and applied in specific details, in the Epistles inspired by the Holy Spirit.

This is a reproduction of the original book first published in 1908. The purpose of this volume is to make an application of the philosophic or rationalistic test to the Bible account of Creation, and particularly to that portion of the account which deals with the Origin of Evil in human nature. There is room just now for an application of this test, because of the collapse of the Darwinian theory of the Origin of Species. That theory, which was the central doctrine of the philosophy of Materialism, had so completely occupied the stage, that its exit leaves a most conspicuous vacancy. If evil (in its infinite variety of manifestations) be not a primal condition out of which man is evolving, and which the human race is gradually leaving behind, as Materialism taught, what is it 1 If we reject Materialism, as the successors of its now deceased apostles are doing, what shall take its place?

Leaving New York for Genoa on April 11th, 1912, Philip Mauro and his wife had little idea that they would become eye-witnesses to history four days later, when their ship, the Carpathia, picked up 700 cold and bedraggled survivors of the Titanic disaster. For the first time since 1912, Mr. Mauro's small and extremely rare book reflecting on the lessons of the disaster is available. Using his knowledge of the scriptures, Mauro talks of the religious, spiritual and theological background to the catastrophe.

Mauro summarizes what not only constitutes the hope of the Jews, but the hope of the Christian Church as well. His entire argument can be summed up in this way: it's a serious mistake to think that the faithful Jews in the Old Testament were hoping for anything less than the spiritual Kingdom of Christ that we Christians are hoping for. And since Mauro had just extricated himself from Dispensationalism, he makes the point plain, over and over, that anybody who believes that the Jews (past or future) are going to receive a physical fulfillment of the Old Testament promises is just as much in error as were the Pharisees in Jesus' day, who rejected outright the Lord's efforts to turn them in a spiritual direction. Through an incident of recent occurrence I was made aware of the extent - far greater than I had imagined - to which the modern system of dispensationalism has found acceptance amongst orthodox Christians; and also of the extent - correspondingly great - to which the recently published "Scofield Bible" (which is the main vehicle of the new system of doctrine referred to) has usurped the place of authority that belongs to God's Bible alone.
