Periodontal Regeneration: Management of Osseous Defects is a comprehensive guide for dental professionals, periodontists, and postgraduate students seeking an in-depth understanding of periodontal osseous defects and their management. This book delves into the anatomy of periodontal tissues, explores the etiology of osseous defects, and provides clarity on essential terminologies associated with periodontal conditions. The book classifies periodontal osseous defects, offering insight into various diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. It highlights both non-surgical and surgical treatment modalities, including scaling and root planing, pharmacological interventions, resective and inductive osseous surgery, bone grafting techniques, guided tissue regeneration, and furcation treatment. Each chapter is structured to present evidence-based practices, ensuring readers gain a thorough understanding of contemporary periodontal management. With a focus on enhancing clinical outcomes, this book serves as a vital resource for those aiming to deepen their expertise in the field of periodontology and improve patient care through effective regeneration techniques.

The term 'plastic' in periodontal plastic surgery has been derived from the Greek word, 'plastic'. In Greek, it refers to modeling or sculpting. It is a sub- field of dentistry that specializes in correcting or restoring the function and form of teeth. Periodontal plastic surgery is the surgical procedure performed to correct or eliminate anatomic, developmental, or traumatic or disease induced defects of the gingiva, alveolar mucosa or bone. The goal of periodontal therapy is to establish and maintain the dentition and periodontium in health, comfort and function with optimal esthetics throughout the lifetime of the patient. The addition of "optimal esthetics" to the goal of periodontal therapy parallels a paradigm shift in all of dentistry.

Dental implant is an alloplastic material or device placed surgically into the bone for functional and aesthetic purposes. Since ages many researchers have tried to replace missing teeth using implants made from several materials using diverse techniques. in the latter half of 20th century Branemark found an intimate bone-to-implant apposition with titanium which offered ample strength to cope up with load transfer. An oral implantologist must have a thorough knowledge of factors leading to dental implant failure and prevention of the same. management of ailing, failing and failed implants is also a challenging task and every dental operator must be well aware of it.
