Knizhnyj dolzhen byt ujutnym i privlekatelnym, po krajnej mere, takim ego khochet videt novyj direktor magazina "Teksty", amerikanets, nedavno pereekhavshij v Velikobritaniju. No eto okazyvaetsja dovolno trudno, tak kak v ego magazine, odnom iz tseloj seti, postojanno tvoritsja chto-to neladnoe. Vo-pervykh, zdanie postojanno skryvaet gustoj tuman. Kazhdyj raz, kogda rabotniki prikhodjat utrom, mnogie knigi lezhat na polu, nekotorye izorvany ili propitany kakoj-to vlagoj. Kompjutery sbojat, a po nocham, dazhe otkljuchennye, mertsajut strannym serym svetom. Zakazy ischezajut. Na kuplennykh videokassetakh vmesto filmov okazyvajutsja teni, izobrazhajuschie drevnie bitvy i zhertvoprinoshenija. Kogda na stojanke pered magazinom mashina nasmert sbivaet odnu iz prodavschits, direktor reshaet perejti k zhestkim meram. Grjadet proverka, i on ostavljaet ves personal na nochnoe dezhurstvo, chtoby perebrat assortiment i vyjasnit, kto zhe ustraivaet v pomeschenii besporjadok. No na ekranakh kamer videonabljudenija uzhe pokazalis strannye suschestva, poluprozrachnye, no ostavljajuschie posle sebja sklizkie sledy. I tuman stanovitsja vse neprogljadnee, a opasnost i uzhas podkradyvajutsja vse blizhe.

Pered vami traktovka vazhnejshikh voprosov ekonomicheskoj teorii, dostupnaja nespetsialistam (i dazhe milym pesikam!). Monti - vovse ne finansovyj genij, a samaja obychnaja sobaka, no zhizn, kotoruju on vedet den oto dnja, tozhe opredeljaetsja ekonomikoj. Tochnaja nauka, podobnaja matematike i fizike? Ili nravstvennoe i filosofskoe issledovanie togo, kak obschestvam sleduet raspredeljat skudnye resursy? Vpered, k postizheniju glavnykh idej velikikh myslitelej, ot Adama Smita do Tomasa Piketti, i ponimaniju togo, kak vse rabotaet v ekonomike! "Ekonomika odnovremenno chrezvychajno vazhna i neverojatno slozhna. Esli chto-to v ekonomike kazhetsja ochevidnym ili prostym, velika verojatnost, chto ty chego-to ne ponimaesh. Kak vyrazilsja Genri Luis Menken, na kazhdyj slozhnyj vopros est prostoj i prjamoj otvet, kotoryj v korne neveren... Ekonomika imeet delo s dvumja urovnjami slozhnosti: s chelovecheskim mozgom, slozhnee kotorogo net nichego vo Vselennoj, i so vzaimodejstviem millionov chelovecheskikh mozgov na rynkakh. Tem ne menee ja nadejus, chto eti progulki pomogut razobratsja v ekonomicheskikh voprosakh". (Rebekka Kempbell)

Algernon Blackwood, a founding father of modern ghost and horror stories, is one of the great horror writers of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. With M. R. James, William Hope Hodgson and Arthur Machen, he inspired generations of writers from H. P. Lovecraft to Shirley Jackson, Robert Bloch to Ramsey Campbell. Although The Willows and The Wendigo are his most well-known, this new collection brings together many of his other finely crafted tales, including 'The Empty House', 'A Haunted Island', 'The Transfer' and 'The Kit-Bag'. The Flame Tree Gothic Fantasy, Classic Stories and Epic Tales collections bring together the entire range of myth, folklore and modern short fiction. Highlighting the roots of suspense, supernatural, science fiction and mystery stories, the books in Flame Tree Collections series are beautifully presented, perfect as a gift and offer a lifetime of reading pleasure.

Palapelistä puuttuva pala suistaa miehen elämän raiteiltaan. Kauhuelokuvahahmo Chucky kummittelee kammottavan murhan traumatisoimassa Liverpoolissa. Pikkupoika oppii, että joulupukkia sietääkin pelätä. Vierailu sukulaisten luona muuttuu karnevalistiseksi painajaiseksi.
