At a time of huge pressures on mental health services, this highly topical, broad-ranging and thought-provoking analysis of the mental health crisis examines the current challenges in mental health service delivery and access using a range of perspectives (political, economic, and cultural, organisational issues). It then puts forward a number of alternatives, reviewing both current and alternative initiatives, and exploring what is needed for a mentally healthy society.
The politics of psychology meets war and artificial intelligence. Psychology After Capitalism?interrogates the moral and political implications of contemporary psychology in an age marked by war, mass deceit, and AI. It remains a dangerous discipline, wedded to Western ideology, individualism, and a fear of the political.
Focused on the life and work of Francis Huxley (1923–2016), this book offers an exploration of the search to understand the human condition, one which is simultaneously biographical, philosophical, cultural, historical, political and epistemological. It will be of interest to scholars from across the social sciences and humanities.

Capitalism on Campus examines the university’s journey into market hands and the sexual sell-off of students, which has come with it. It raises critical questions about the forces which conjoin higher education to both sex work and declining academic freedom. In so doing it questions the role our institutions of learning have in the cultivation of resistance to capitalism. This is a call to rediscover the emancipatory potential of knowledge.
Society is undergoing a process of deep change and transformation as the neoliberal order moves into crisis. Contemporary psychology, mired in exceptionalism and individualism, fails to address this broader context and continues with a fragmented reductionist approach which is alienating to students and practitioners alike. In the lifetime of the discipline there have been several distinct frameworks to emerge - psychoanalytic, behaviourist and cognitive. To these one might add Kelly's Personal Construct Theory as the last attempt to present a coherent and challenging framework for how to understand our lives. As society moves into a new phase, Ron Roberts argues the need for a new way of 'doing' psychology which challenges not only the existing epistemological and reductionist outlook, but the centrality of a scientific professional discourse as a suitable vehicle for improving lives and making sense of the world.
"Close Enough for Jazz" is a memoir of a jazz career that spanned 45 years and sprawled over 17 states including stints in Los Angeles and New York City. It's a combination of a collection of humorous anecdotes and a serious look at personality traits that creative artists have in common. It puts you in the bass chair for a really wild ride.
Psychology and Capitalism is a critical and accessible account of the ideological and material role of psychology in supporting capitalist enterprise and holding individuals entirely responsible for their fate through the promotion of individualism.
SLIPPING THROUGH THE CRACKS A Memoir by Ron Roberts What is happening here? Why did these bizarre events take place? At the heart of this story is a mystery, an absorbing question regarding what is going on within its setting. It's a question I have not answered myself, so I leave it to the reader as a puzzle to occupy the mind. Is it simply another story of the consequences of war, or is there some more perfidious plan in the background? Or is the journey from Family to Funny Farm, giving voice to a relentless downward spiral orchestrated by a person within the story disguised and not named? These are matters I leave to the reader as I'm at the close of its telling unsure myself. As I begin the story, I had in mind to tell it as simply Autobiography, as it progressed I found it was becoming, on at least one level, a picture reflecting those often ignored years following World War Two, a personal testament rescued from a time rarely referred to & rarely documented. It is the story of a young Australian's struggles to survive the streets of Sydney & the severities of Bush life after leaving school at thirteen almost entirely illiterate. The time is the nineteen fifties as the country begins to put feelers out to a larger world beyond its island boundaries. This was a world where values were so very different to those of contemporary Australia, as I wrestled with a post-war outlook of a country looking backwards to regain a sense of national identity. A world before television, supermarkets & practically anything made of plastic. To have got lost in this world was for me a full on war staged within a life that had spun out of control, fighting to prevent a personal, inevitable spiral descent. The mix of horror & humour within these pages will involve you I'm sure; it has the taste of its time. It's a frightening "Coming of Age" book, a short read, full to the brim with life, humour & hardship. An extraordinary personal journey that ranges from farce to anguish beyond belief, yet all is true, it all happened. amazon.com/author/smithpa Published by New Humanity Books

Empower your people, your company—and yourself—with leadership egolibriumegolibrium: the ability to toggle between egocentric and “other-centric” attitudes, values, and behaviors for organizational successThere’s no doubt about it: the very best leaders are deeply in tune with their behavior and understand the impact it has on others. As one of the world’s top trainers in the field of accelerated experiential learning, Ron Roberts understands this more keenly than anyone, and in The Well-Balanced Leader, he helps you re-envision your own behavior to become the best leader you can be. Roberts makes the process of finding the perfect leadership balance—what he calls egolibrium—personally enriching and easy to achieve. He begins by identifying the nine human behavioral dichotomies that most affect the quality of leadership:Nonjudgmental / JudgmentalNondefensive / DefensiveRelinquishing Control / ControllingOpenness to learning / Know it allDoing the right thing / Doing whatever you wantPatience / ImpatienceLetting go / Holding onAcceptance / ResistanceOther-centric / EgocentricEveryone’s behaviors fall somewhere between each dichotomy. Using the activities, action steps, games, and thought exercises included for each pair, you’ll figure out exactly where your behaviors land, and then learn how to move that position in one direction or the other to find the right balance or your specific needs. When you transcend your personal needs and focus on the needs of others and of the organization, everyone benefits—including you. The result is not only greater job satisfaction for people at all levels, but greater productivity— regardless of the organization’s field, product, or service. The Well-Balanced Leader gives you the tools for making the small, incremental changes in behavior that lead to big changes in awareness—and huge changes in your leadership effectiveness.
