The Problem of Lay Analyses is a book written by the renowned psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. In this book, Freud explores the issue of non-professional analysts practicing psychoanalysis, which he refers to as ""lay analyses."" He argues that lay analyses are problematic because they lack the proper training and knowledge to effectively practice psychoanalysis. Freud also discusses the potential harm that can be caused by lay analyses, including misdiagnosis and incorrect treatment. He suggests that only trained professionals should practice psychoanalysis in order to ensure the safety and well-being of patients. The book is a significant contribution to the field of psychoanalysis and continues to be studied and discussed by scholars today.
