Two distinct type of facial form have been characterized in the literature as "skeletal open bite" or hyperdivergent and "skeletal deep bite" or hypodivergent. Persons with relatively long or disproportionately excessive lower facial heights have also been described by the term "long face syndrome". In term of facial type, an open bite is associated with excessive lower anterior facial height relative to upper facial height. Posterior face height tends to be approximately one half of the size of the total anterior face height, while ramal length is short.

This book is an approach towards understanding of orthodontics and its inter relation with the genetics of an individual. This gives a vast review of how malocclusion is created in human beings. This gives us a vast understanding of the various ways in which malocclusion is created and the ways in which we can handle the malocclusions at various stages thereby preventing or correcting the malocclusion in whatever way is necessary. I was very inquisitive to know about how every individual has the same type of teeth but not even a single person's teeth arrangement is similar to the other one. This made me research into this topic and by God's grace i was able to research on this and i hope the research continues in the future too.

Arch width is a very important factor in the facial appearance of an individual. It also determines the arrangement of teeth in the dental arch. If the dental arch width is small and the teeth size is large there will be malaligned teeth and crowded teeth. If the arch width is large and the teeth size is small there will be lot of spaces between the teeth. This is known as tooth material-arch width discrepancy.
