This book critically examines the cultural desire for anglicisation of the Indian middle class in the context of postcolonial India. It looks at the history of anglicised self-fashioning as one of the major responses of the Indian middle class to British colonialism. The book explores the rich variety of nineteenth- and twentieth-century writings that document the attempts by the Indian middle class to innovatively interpret their personal histories, their putative racial histories, and the history of India to appropriate the English language and lay claim to an “English” identity. It discusses this unique quest for “Englishness” by reading the works of authors like Michael Madhusudan Dutt, Rabindranath Tagore, Cornelia Sorabji, Nirad C. Chaudhuri, Dom Moraes, and Salman Rushdie. An important intervention, this book will be of interest to scholars and researchers of postcolonial studies, Indian English literature, South Asian studies, cultural studies, and English literature in general.

Niemowlęta i dzieci mieszkające w okolicy są narażone na ryzyko zdrowotne związane z NO3- poprzez picie wody ze studni.

I campioni di suolo sono stati analizzati per i caratteri fisico-chimici e l'azoto nitrico, mentre il succo di canna da zucchero stato analizzato per brix, saccarosio, purezza e CCS e i campioni di acqua per pH, EC, carico di NO3-N e concentrazione ionica. I neonati e i bambini che vivono nell'area hanno rischi per la salute a causa dell'NO3- bevendo l'acqua dei pozzi.

La canne sucre est une culture de longue dur e qui consomme beaucoup d' l ments nutritifs. En raison de la culture intensive de la canne sucre dans les zones industrielles, la contamination par les nitrates est un probl me pour les ressources en eaux souterraines du Bihar. Le nitrate n'a ni go t ni odeur dans l'eau et ne peut tre d tect que par des tests chimiques. Le Bihar est l'un des tats o les zones agricoles sont intensives, en particulier la canne sucre. Une tude a t men e pour valuer le potentiel de lixiviation de l'azote-nitrate dans le profil du sol et sa contamination dans les eaux souterraines en fonction des propri t s du sol et des activit s agricoles dans les zones de culture de la canne sucre o des engrais azot s ont t appliqu s de mani re intensive ann e apr s ann e. Les effets d'une forte application d'azote sur la qualit de la canne sucre ont galement t estim s. Au total, 64 chantillons de sol provenant de quatre profondeurs diff rentes, 16 chantillons de canne sucre, 24 chantillons d'eau souterraine et 8 chantillons d'eau de surface ont t pr lev s. Les chantillons de sol ont t analys s pour leurs caract ristiques physico-chimiques et l'azote nitrique, tandis que le jus de canne sucre a t analys pour le brix, le saccharose, la puret et le CCS, et les chantillons d'eau pour le pH, l'EC, la charge en NO3-N et la concentration ionique.
