Composed over a six month period (October 1906 to April 1907), Rachmaninoff's second excursion into symphonic form was written at a time when he was still not entirely confident in his abilities to handle the genre. Unhappy with the first draft, the work was subjected to much revision for several months after its completion. The premiere, given on January 26, 1908 in St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre with the composer conducting, received tumultuous applause from the delighted audience. The work gained much popularity soon after and remains a staple of the orchestral repertoire to this day. Editors Clinton F. Nieweg and Christopher R. Morgan have consulted all available sources in course of preparing their edition of this cornerstone work. Originally issued in 2011 by the now-defunct publisher E. F. Kalmus, this superb edition is now available from Serenissima Music as a large conductor score and orchestral parts aling with the study score offered here.

10 Preludes, Op. 23 are among the most popular works by S. V. Rachmaninoff, 1873-1943. The cycle was being created during a long period of time, and therefore does not represent a complete whole, all preludes are diverse in genre, and each has its complete independent form. Nevertheless, there is a unity of internal content, a relationship of textured features, a certain unity of modal-tonal relationships. The brightness, vitality of images, the richness of expressive means and texture provided Rachmaninoff's preludes with wide recognition and love of the audience. The collection is addressed to pianists of various professional level, from pupils of senior grades of children's music schools to professional performers.

"Variations on a Theme of Chopin" were written in 1903 and to some extent represent a "workshop" composition, reflecting Rachmaninoff's searches in the field of piano texture. The cycle is based on the famous prelude in C minor, shortened by the composer to eight measures. "Variations on a Theme of Corelli" is one of Rachmaninoff's later works. Variations are dedicated to Fritz Kreisler, whom Rachmaninoff considered the best violinist of his time. The theme in the genre of folia, forming the cycle, is one of the earliest known themes of European music. Corelli used "Folia" in his Twelfth Violin Sonata, creating a cycle of variations on its basis. The edition is addressed to pianists - students of music colleges and universities, as well as concert performers.
