Trumpington, now part of Cambridge, is south-west of the city centre. It was a thriving community long before Cambridge became important. Archaeological investigations revealed Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlements. Manors of Trumpington are listed in the Domesday Book and the quality of the vineyards was noted in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
