Magna est veritas et pr valet- "Great is truth, and it prevails. (Bible) The present edition, Volume 11, of Inspiration from Savitri, Truth and Falsehood, Good and Evil, with relevant passages from Savitri, shows us with the illumined clarity of the mantra, Sri Aurobindo's experiences through Aswapathy, the 'Lord of the Horse', Savitri's human father, the 'Lord of Tapasya, the concentrated endeavour that helps us to rise from the mortal to the immortal planes;' as explained in a letter of Sri Aurobindo to a disciple and placed at the beginning of the epic. Sri Aurobindo has hewn a path through the greatest darkness, falsehood and evil to bring to us light. Again, we read in the same letter from Sri Aurobindo that 'Savitri is the Divine Word, daughter of the Sun, goddess of the supreme Truth who comes down and is born to save.' Note that Sri Aurobindo capitalizes Divine Word, Sun and Truth. The last sentence of the letter also tells us something so extraordinary that the mind is reduced to silence and, if one is sincere about Savitri being the supreme path, humility. "Still this is not a mere allegory, the characters are not personaified qualities, but incarnations or emanations of living and conscious Force with whomm we can enter into concrete touch and the take human bodies in order to help man and show him the way from his mortal state to a divine consciousness and immortal life." In passage after passage we learn that even Nature shall not only particpate in the transformation but "Even Nature shall be lit with the Truth-Light" "When superman is born as nature's king His presence shall transfigure matter's world: He shall light up Truth's fire in Nature's night," "And Truth shall be a sun on Nature's head And Truth shall be the guide of Nature's steps And Truth shall gaze out of her nether deeps." As we read these passages let us meditate on Savitri, the Truth, the Way and the Light.

Since my childhood I have been surrounded by song, immersed in harmonies and winged in melody. We all sang as one in praise, in joy and in sorrow. When I left the path of religion and came to Mother my audience with Her lasted about an hour. After She gave me my initiation She also gave me my first adesh, "You must bring down a New Music. When I replied to Mother, "Mother, I don't know anything about combining words and music", Mother replied, "No, no, you must go far above words and bring down the pure music." For more than fifty years I have been listening to music from all parts of the world seeking to catch at least a few moments of the New Music. This search culminated approximately ten years ago in the formation of the first OM Choirs, a result of a inspiration received through the Divine Grace. The OM Choirs, now beginning is many countries throughout the world, aspire as a group soul, a holy body, to become instruments for His song. In the Ashram and in Auroville seekers and devotees come together each week - and the descent comes in great waves through the power of OM. The transcendent music of Savitri has guided me all these years and I have found in it the plenitude of inspiration that informs and inspires the OM Choirs and opens the heart centre, infusing it with light, allowing the mantric lines to transcend the small human personality and begin, or rather continue, the transformation of our nature and the healing of the earth. The music and rhythm of Savitri descends Word of the New Creation, the Life Divine on earth. Immerse yourself in these passages, repeated numerous times in various sections, for here you will find in Sri Aurobindo's eternal words, in poetry that will touch the chords of your soul and, in the silence that follows a passage, take you to realms of beauty and truth inconceivable before the writing of Savitri. Each of these books offer an entry into Savitri through a key word (and ultimately the complete sentence) to inspire everyone, those with varying personalities, sensitivities and inner openings of the mind, others predisposed to the search for the Divine through knowledge, some who seek Him through bhakti, the heart's aspiration, others who are drawn to Him by beauty and all, in the deepest part of their being, who aspire to be guided by the soul's choice to the transformation of earth and men to a life divine on earth. If even one word or phrase rings in your consciousness, one line reverberates in your inner being, then these books will have meaning for the world and help lead us to the glorious and golden future promised by the Avatars of the New World, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. Included in this volume are Sri Aurobindo's writings on OM and The Mother and Sri Aurobindo on Mantra and on Music.

My introduction to Savitri began nearly fifty-two years ago when I received my first copy of Savitri. As a young man I attended the talks of A. B. Purani during his visit to the U. S. Purani was one of Sri Aurobindo's earliest disciples yet he treated me as a younger brother with tenderness and love and opened me to an appreciation and initial understanding of the Overhead poetry of Savitri, Vedic references and more. I also had the blessing of meeting Arabinda Basu around the same time who was chosen by Mother to help an aspiring soul to come closer to Her and was instrumental in opening Sri Aurobindo's magnum opus and the path of Integral Yoga to me. I remember receiving my first copy from a dear friend, Madanlal Himatsingka, and at the same time receiving a copy of The Odyssey by Nikos Kazantzakis, an epic of some 33,000 lines, translated into English from the Greek. I marveled at the beauty of his imagery, the seemingly infinite ways he could describe the sun and the power of his story telling in verse. Yet, after reading Savitri I never had a desire to pick up the Odyssey again, for Savitri was the Word of Truth, the Light of Lights, written from planes far above our minds so that even the most brilliant could not grasp its Truth. Though certain passages are comprehensible to an awakened, calm and purified mental consciousness, most of Savitri has descended from planes far above the limited mind and must be taken deep within to allow an understanding to dawn. Savitri came to me as revelation, entering deep into a region of the heart where as Sri Aurobindo writes in Book VII, The Book of Yoga, But since she knows the toil of mind and life As a mother feels and shares her children's lives, She puts forth a small portion of herself, A being no bigger than the thumb of man Into a hidden region of the heart To face the pang and to forget the bliss, To share the suffering and endure earth's wounds And labour mid the labour of the stars. --126.4-- So, with little understanding at first I plunged myself into reading Savitri and through a supreme blessing from the Mother, I was given permission by Her to read Savitri in Auroville each week in a small Meditation Room at the Center called "Peace", where the Matrimandir was to be built and in the Nursery of the Matrimandir Gardens for ten years, Today much of Savitri is still incomprehensible mentally for how can one understand what one has not experienced? If you will read Savitri each day it will change your life and you will awaken to the bright future of a transformed earth, this blue planet on which the Life Divine will manifest and death be vanquished through the power of love. This book is intended for those who wish to enter Savitri but have been daunted by its formidable size (the longest poem written in English) or some of its Books and Cantos. In this volume you will find hundreds of quotations on joy, Bliss, delight, felicity, gladness and happiness. Each word has descended into Sri Aurobindo from the planes in which he alone had access as the Avatar and Seer-poet of all ages. The words are not interchangeable nor can we say that one is greater in meaning than another.
The Life Divine, V1: Omnipresent Reality and the Universe
The Life Divine, Volume 1: Omnipresent Reality and the Universe is a philosophical and spiritual treatise written by Sri Aurobindo, an Indian philosopher, yogi, and poet. The book explores the nature of reality, the universe, and humanity's place within it. Aurobindo argues that there is a divine reality that exists beyond the physical world, and that this reality is omnipresent and all-encompassing. He believes that humanity's purpose is to realize this divine reality and to evolve towards a higher state of consciousness. Throughout the book, Aurobindo draws on a variety of sources, including Hindu philosophy, Western philosophy, and modern science, to support his arguments. He also explores the relationship between consciousness and matter, and the role of evolution in the development of human consciousness. Overall, The Life Divine, Volume 1 is a complex and thought-provoking work that challenges readers to consider the nature of reality and their place within it. It is a seminal work in the field of Indian philosophy and has had a significant impact on spiritual and philosophical thought worldwide. This is a new release of the original 1951 edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. In each of the volumes of Inspiration from Savitri one can be lifted to heights above mortal mind, to planes of beauty, truth and delight no previous work of literature or inspired poetry has been able to achieve. Sri Aurobindo, the Seer-Poet has created an epic so vast that it awaits the 'fit' reader whose soul is open to mantric poetry. In this present volume anothers, still works in progress, I have aspired to share my joy in the immersion of these worlds of transcendent bliss. One is thrilled at the innumerable ways Sri Aurobindo uses words and has enriched the English language, raising it to new and greater heights. There are so many examples one can choose. To mention just one, do look at the word 'Bloom' and exult in the magic of his poetic genius. For this reason and others I have included all the definitions for each word whether it be used as a noun, verb or adjective, compound word, etc. In fact, Sri Aurobindo may use the same word many times in Savitri, each time with a different meaning. Though I have read Savitri cover to cover many times in twelve years of compiling the Lexicon of An Infinite Mind, a 'Dictionary of Words and Terms in Savitri, new understandings and glimpses of the beauty of Nature and her ultimate fulfilment through the descent of the Supramental in all its power and vastness, carrying the Truth-Coonsciousness to earth and men, have through the largesse of the supreme Grace, opened much to me and continue to open more as I read Savitri again and again. The further evolution of beauty in Nature's trees and flowers, the abundance of her life-giving gifts of fruits and grains and herbs and so much more to come when the 'Life Divine' is fully manifested on earth will be evident to all in the next phase of the evolution. I hope the reader of this volume will be inspired by the quotations on animals and birds and flowers, for through the genius and brilliance of Sri Aurobindo's poetry the face of Nature is shown to usthrough the highest and most intensely beautiful lines in all their glory and plenitude. Here is only one passage of the hundreds quoted, a passage of such sweetness (I am told that sweetness is Sri Aurobindo's favorite word as it was that of Shakespeare as well), that it inspires us to aspire with all our consciousness to help the earth recover from the devastation wrought by man and assist in itsreturn to the manifestion of divine and unparalled beauty and diversity. The life of the enchanted globe became A storm of sweetness and of light and song, A revel of colour and of ecstasy, A hymn of rays, a litany of cries: A strain of choral priestly music sang And, swung on the swaying censer of the trees, A sacrifice of perfume filled the hours. --93.30-- Asocas burned in crimson spots of flame, Pure like the breath of an unstained desire White jasmines haunted the enamoured air, Pale mango-blossoms fed the liquid voice Of the love-maddened co l, and the brown bee Muttered in fragrance mid the honey-buds. --93.31-- The sunlight was a great god's golden smile. --93.32-- All Nature was at beauty's festival. --93.33--
