Trumping Religion provides a detailed analysis of the five major public-interest law firms that have litigated religion cases in the federal courts between 1980 and 2000. Allied with several highly vocal, evangelical ministries, such as those of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robinson, these legal organizations argue that religious expression is a form of protected speech and thereby gain a greater latitude of interpretation in the courts. The long-term agenda of the New Christian Right as illuminated by this study is to shape church-state jurisprudence in a way that permits free course for the Christian gospel. Steven P. Brown presents his research and conclusions from a balanced viewpoint. By filling a distinct void in the literature, this book will be of considerable interest to political scientists, legal scholars, law schools and seminaries, and anyone concerned with the intersection of religion and judicial politics.

What is value? Business markets are undergoing an evolution similar to that of the industrial revolution, but in this case, it's the electronic commerce revolution and its ability to offer value. You've undoubtedly heard the term, but like most business people, you may be hard pressed to come up with a clear definition of value. By value, do we mean savings, benefits, quality, convenience, etc? To further complicate matters is trying to determine what it means for your customers. An important point to consider is whose definition would you accept, yours, a consumer, a visitor, a business partner, an employee? The beauty of using the Value Matrix Approach is that you will be able to uncover what all of them think, and act accordingly. Looking towards the future it can be seen that in order to compete in electronic commerce, or for that matter any business, value must be delivered. However, value must not be delivered in the eyes of the organization but rather in the eyes of the customer.

The eagerly awaited second installment in the Tales of the Wendy series "As I swiped left to continue the adventure and saw the words, 'the second book is expected in 2019, ' I gasped. It was as if Captain Hook himself had put his sword to my heart. It reminded me of when I was reading the Harry Potter books as they were being written. I will be waiting on pins and needles for the next installment." - Mary, Goodreads "I need the second book, RIGHT NOW." - Angela, Goodreads "I can't wait for the next installment of this marvellous re-imagined version of Peter Pan." - Readers' Favorite NOT EVERY ADVENTURE GOES AS PLANNED ... L. With the challenges of global warming, climate change and population growth, and increasing concern in the UK that the demand for wholesome water will soon begin to exceed supply, a study was conducted to survey the acceptability of introducing low flow water fittings to domestic buildings. The study included: an experiment to test public opinion about low flow water fittings, focus group, survey of manufacturers and installers, and a literature review of public attitudes and behaviour regarding water use. The results give an improved understanding of the barriers and enablers to water-efficient behaviour which is essential to the appropriate installation of low flow rate appliances and their acceptance by the public.

For many years, for many people social psychology has been deemed a discipline in crisis. This new book proposes a way out of the crisis by letting go of the idea that psychology needs new foundations or a new identity, whether biological, discursive or cognitive. The psychological is not narrowly confined to any one aspect of human experience; it is quite literally everywhere. The book proposes a strong process-oriented approach to the psychological, which studies events or occasions. Aspects of experience such as communication or embodiment are treated as thoroughly mediated - the product of multiple intersecting relationships between the biological, the psychic and the social. The outcome is an image of a mobile, reflexively founded discipline which follows the psychological wherever it takes us, from the depths of embodiment to the complexities of modern global politics.

`A smart, thoughtful, and well-written book that takes social memory studies in a bold new direction and will attract an audience from across the social sciences for years to come' - Theory & Psychology What informs the process of remembering and forgetting? Is it merely about our capability to store and retrieve experiences in a purely functional sense? What about 'collective memories', not just those of the individual - how do these manifest themselves in the passages of time? The authors present a new, fascinating insight into the social psychology of experience drawing upon a number of classic works (particularly by Frederick Bartlett, Maurice Halbwachs & Henri Bergson) to help develop their argument. The significance of their ideas for developing a contemporary psychology of experience is illustrated with material from studies focused on settings at home and at work, in public and commercial organizations where remembering and forgetting are matters of concern, involving language and text based communication, objects and place. As their argument unfolds, the authors reveal that memories do not solely reside in a linear passage of time, linking past, present and future, nor do they solely rest within the indidvidual's conciousness, but that memory sits at the very heart of 'lived experience'; whether collective or individual, the vehicle for how we remember or forget is linked to social interaction, object interaction and the different durations of living that we all have. It is very much connected to the social psychology of experience. This book is written for advanced undergraduate, masters and doctoral students in social psychology. However, it will also be of particular value on courses that deal with conceptual and historical issues in psychology (in cognate disciplines as well) and supplmentary reading in cognitive science.

Topics in Language and Culture for Teachers is an introductory language and culture text designed for today's future teachers, anthropologists, and applied linguists. The book explores, from a variety of perspectives, the interrelationships between language and culture that have the most significant implications for the classroom and for the global community. Among the topics introduced are first language acquisition, dialects, sign language, non-verbal communication, and pragmatics. Each chapter is structured so that students will read about a topic, answer comprehension questions, consider relevant teaching scenarios, gather and analyze data in further reading, and pursue projects that require out-of-class research. The book also encourages the use of films to provide deeper cultural understanding and context for various issues. Three appendixes-the family tree of languages, language structure, resources for further research and professional development-and a glossary are included.
