The Rosary is a powerful tool for prayer and healing. It has been used by Catholics for centuries, but could also be a transforming tool in the life of all Christians, whether Catholic or not. This practical and useful guide will lead all Christians into the prayerful act of using the Rosary, with a focus on healing our beautiful country. Now is the moment for Catholics and Protestants to unite in prayer, to join our hearts and minds in a deliberate act of praying for our leaders, our emergency workers, and for our country. God Bless America: The Rosary includes a history of the Rosary, how it is a powerful tool for all Christians, and how it can unite us in prayer.
Imaginative design will be a crucial factor in enacting sustainability in people's daily lives. Yet current design practice is trapped in consumerist cycles of innovation and production, making it difficult to imagine how we might develop a more meaningful and sustainable rendition of material culture. Through fundamental design research, The Spirit of Design challenges a host of common assumptions about sustainability, progress, growth and globalization. Walker's practice-based explorations of localisation, human meaning and functional objects demonstrate the imaginative potential of research-through-design and yield a compelling, constructive and essentially hopeful direction for the future - one that radically re-imagines our material culture by meshing mass-production with individuality, products with place, and utilitarian benefit with environmental responsibility. In so doing, the author explores:how understandings of human meaning affect design and how design can better incorporate issues of personal meaninghow mass production needs to become integrated with localised production and service provisionhow short-lived electronic goods can be brought into a more sustainable design paradigmthe changing role of the designer in a post-consumerist world taking a design-centred approacha combination of creative, propositional design practice, reasoned argument and theoretical discussionthe book will impel readers to investigate the nature of contemporary material culture and its relationship to both the natural environment and to deeper notions of human meaning.
Benefit-Risk Appraisal of Medicines

Benefit-risk assessment is at the centre of the approval process for every new medicine. The ability to assess the risks of a new medicine accurately and to balance these against the benefits the medicine could bring is critical for every regulatory authority and pharmaceutical company. Despite this there are very few tried and tested evaluative models currently available. The authors of this book have developed a new, pioneering tool for the assessment of benefits and risks for new medicines in development. This model utilises a multi-criteria decision analysis which involves selecting, scoring and weighting key benefit and risk attributes and leads to an overall appraisal of benefits and risks of medicines. Benefit-Risk Appraisal of Medicines establishes the background and criteria required to assess benefit and risk in general and reviews the current practices by regulatory authorities and the pharmaceutical industry, including those models currently available. It outlines the development and evaluation of the authors’ new model and analyses the implications of its implementation. Describes an innovative, systematic model which leads to transparent and responsible benefit-risk decision makingContributes important ideas to the debate on benefit-risk appraisalProvides a future framework for benefit-risk appraisal of medicines Benefit-Risk Appraisal of Medicines covers the entire process from the discovery of new medicines to their marketing and is ideal for all those who work in the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory authorities,, as well as post-graduate students of pharmaceutical medicine and clinical pharmacology.
To advance the subject of design one has to engage in the activity of designing. Sustainable by Design offers a compelling and innovative, design-centred approach that explores both the meaning and practice of sustainable design. Walker explores the design process in the context of sustainability, and challenges conventional ways of defining, designing and producing functional objects. He discusses the personal design process, tacit knowledge, ephemeral design, experimental design, and the relationship between intellectual design criteria, physical expression and aesthetic experience. This book will introduce vital concepts to students and will inspire designers by providing a well-articulated basis for understanding the complexity and potential of sustainable design, and extolling the contribution of design to the creation of a more meaningful material culture.

This book focuses largely on enabling technologies for network convergence. A principal aim is to show where parallel functions exist in fixed and mobile voice network architectures and to explain how these functions will be combined. The authors describe the components of a future converged architecture and consider the following key aspects: QoS Requirements, Proposed Solution Architectures, Protocol and Interface options, Underlying Network Issues and Security issues. The book also compares and describes initiatives from several standards bodies working to simplify to a clean architecture and a common set of protocols. The impact on a Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network, the preferred method of transport for the core network, will be considered in detail.
A world authority and champion sailor has written the definitive book on one of the most important, and least understood, factors in winning: the wind, its changes, and its effects on racing strategy. Races are lost by a failure to understand and predict changes in wind. This book is the first and only one of its kind to deal with the character of the wind as it applies specifically to the racer. It shows how surface wind is affected by season, time of day, temperature disparities, clouds and geography. It supplies the meteorology needed to understand surface winds, and it shows how to predict the many kinds of wind shifts. Above all it shows how to take advantage of this special knowledge. The book includes a wide range of illustrations in a section called "Winds of the World," showing how the wind behaves in many of the world's major racing areas. There are numerous examples of application of wind prediction to the planning of a race. The author includes a cross index which makes readily available all the factors needed to make wind predictions: the effects of season, time of day, origin of the wind, the weather system extant, cloud cover, wind velocity, origins of shifts, etc. This book is essential equipment for every racing sailor, whether competing in small boats or in the cruising classes.
