Endodontic procedures in the elderly is assumed to be technically difficult because of the likelihood of the root canal system being 'sclerosed'. This book discusses the age-related changes in the elderly, their medical, physiological and psychological considerations. Emphasis is given to the special considerations required for successful endodontic therapy in elderly patients. Successful endodontics can be achieved in the elderly if meticulous attention is paid to good quality radiographs and techniques oriented towards overcoming the challenges posed by calcification of the root canal system.

Advances in technology has led to improvement in various dental treatments. Root Canal Treatment, a routinely practised endodontic procedure involves cleaning and shaping of root canal intricacies with endodontic files which were earlier made of stainless steel. Recent metallurgical changes have facilitated the use of nickel titanium (NiTi) alloys for manufacturing of endodontic files. These NiTi endodontic files make biomechanical preparation easier not only for simple root canal anatomies as well as curved and complex root canal anatomies too.
