The politics of psychology meets war and artificial intelligence. Psychology After Capitalism?interrogates the moral and political implications of contemporary psychology in an age marked by war, mass deceit, and AI. It remains a dangerous discipline, wedded to Western ideology, individualism, and a fear of the political.

Dr. Ron Roberts no Pref cio
I am now, at seventy, allowed to lay back. To sustain our wellbeing, to maintain our integrated wholeness, psychotherapy promotes the diversity and richness of a wide variety of life experiences and behaviours. We can thereby become truly street wise, and emancipated from a longing for life lived under the watchful eye that regulates and commands social conditions. The texts presented here are a collection of the insights I have harvested from forty-five years of a fulfilling professional life." These essays, sometimes painfully honest, extend however beyond the realms of psychotherapy and address some of the perennial conundrums of the human condition and our faltering efforts to liberate and make space for the better angels of our nature. At a time when the burdens and tides of our collective and individual histories seem once again all too ready to upend the larger boat in which we all sail, these essays make for timely reading." Ron Roberts, in his Foreword
It outlines the various perspectives of perpetrators and victims, exploring their social and cultural context. Moving case studies provide numerous helpful hints and insights for understanding rage.
This book examines the phenomenon of silence in relation to human behaviour from multiple perspectives, drawing on psychological and cultural-philosophical ideas to create new, surprising connections between silence, quiet and rest. Silence and being quiet are present in everyday life and in politics, but why do we talk about it so rarely? Silence can be cathartic and peaceful, but equally oppressive and unbearable. In the form of communication, we keep secrets to protect ourselves and others, but on the other hand subjects can be silenced with dictatorial posturing - a communicative display of power – and something can be literally ‘hushed up’ that needs to be disclosed. In unique and engaging style, Theodor Itten explores the multi-layered internal conversation on silence in relation to the self and emotions, demonstrating why it is sometimes necessary in our modern society. Describing and analyzing human behaviour in relation to silence, the book also draws on psychoanalytic ideas by outlining the power of silence in processing our emotions and relationships and hiding innermost feelings. With rich narrative signposts providing thought-provoking and amusing insights, and interpersonal communication examined in relation to everyday life, this is fascinating reading for students and academics in psychology, philosophy, cultural studies, and related areas.
